THREAD 🧵 https://tbinternet.ohchr.or...
1. Although the Committee didn't explicitly mention Aparthied, everything in its report did. For example, it reiterated the 2020 recommendations of the Committee on Elimination of Racial Discrimination. I will provide some highlights here but make sure to read the 11-page doc. https://documents-dds-ny.un...
2. The Committee reaffirmed the applicability of the ICCPR on the OPT including in situations of occupation. It further called on Israel to interpret the ICCPR in "good faith" and to review its legal position of non-applicability. Image

There’re many Nigerians stuck abroad living in abject poverty & horrendous impecuniosity. Some of them were once professionals & mildly educated for self sustenance until the need to declare their insolvency. It even gets worse with the current pandemic induced hardship for most.
But this doesn’t excuse criminality in any clime.

Nigeria being a dystopian society, where the electorates are easily swayed by falsehood to the point of stampeding the worst of souls into public office, people stranded abroad often get unmerited awards from the ruining class.
This is why you’ll find a sitting Governor illegally Award Contract to stranded souls at the expense of the suffering masses in his state as part of his strings of failure in office.

It doesn’t take the study of psychology to find such worthless souls spread falsehood…

It is unfortunate that the IG of @PoliceNG is drowning in confusion in the cocoon of corrupt felons he has found himself at the Force HQ. The Police Act 2020 was clear on the mandate of the @PoliceNG_CRU but corruption is fighting back within the system.
This week alone @SIAF_NG has recovered over N2M from kidnappers within the police system in Lagos not to mention Delta, Benin and cases from other states. This was what citizens widely protested against during the #EndSARS protest of 2020. Instead of waiting for NEC to act…
…The forces of corruption around the IGP have been hell bent on destroying the Police Complaint Unit with administrative road blocks to cover up the crimes of their colleagues. Reports have been blocked from reaching the IG & now they are launching a parallel complaint committee

@UNESCO @laurentrichard0 @kavithalankesh @Jos_Bartman Attacks on journalists deprive many people of their right to information. Therefore, we must regard these attacks as attacks on democracy, says @Jos_Bartman, who investigates crimes against reporters with @freepressunltd.
In many countries, there is confusion about the role of journalists, says @laurentrichard0 of @FbdnStories. This makes it more dangerous to be a reporter. News organizations need to earn the trust of their audiences and show them they are working in the public interest.

In light of GOP's evisceration of Impeachment, abdicating all responsibility, I did a thing:

An Amendment to the Constitution of the United States. The elimination of impeachment of the Chief Executive and the establishment of the Office of Governor General as Chief Executive.
1/ In recent years the Dep't of Justice has failed to indict a sitting President for criminal misconduct and Congress has declined to convict upon impeachment, for a President facing a re-election, and a former president having lost faith with the electorate and lost re-election.
2/ Whereas the Congress of the United States has acted repeatedly to deny any accountability for the President of the US, even beyond failing to convict in trials upon Impeachments. but rejecting the concept that the process serves a valuable purpose in our system; #TrumpTrial

My Crazy Thoughts On #Lekki

When the #EndSARS protests began, no one mentioned President @MBuhari

(Thread)
But, just like aides of Governor @senatorbenayade often find a way to make others opinions seem like direct attacks on their principal, apologists and handlers of the @NGRPresident did same.
Minister Lai Mohammed succeeded in selling the narrative to the press that protests were hijacked and it was bought hook, line and sinker! What a spin! That was to justify what will happen next especially as the seemingly facelessness of the protests made negotiations difficult!

1. Anybody who is protesting currently and demanding for @MBuhari ,a democratically elected government we,majority of Nigerians elected in 2019 to step down is mad!
I am saying again, your wish for the So called "Arab Spring" is dead on arrival!!!
2. From Egypt to Libya, Algeria,Syria & recently Sudan, the leaders of those countries spent over 20 to 30yrs ,they were dictators that kept changing the democratic goal post and changing the constitution to perpetuate themselves in power.
Majority of us came out last year to vote
3. For him. You have a right to demand for #ReformTheNigeriaPolice ,#EndSARS #EndImpunity and #DemandGoodGovernance but the candidate you support can't loose an election and you see this protest as an opportunity to remove my own candidate the majority elected democratically .

DAY 9: KEYS TO REWIRING NIGERIA

Today is DAY 9 of #EndSARSProtest, as aggrieved Nigerian youths continue to yearn for a holistic #PoliceReforms.

At least, 90% of @PoliceNG contacts with ordinary Nigerians, which sparked the ongoing protests, occur on roadways, with motorists. Image
2/ Having critically examined the contending issues behind the #EndSARSProtest, in this thread, I'll bare my mind on 5 Major Keys to rewiring Nigeria.

@NigeriaGov must look into:
- Central Database
- Policing System
- Justice System
- Road Infrastructure
- Transport Ministry ImageImageImageImage
3/ On October 11, in a thread, I bared my mind on how the Police in saner climes, e.g., U.S., make traffic stops across roadways, according to best global practices, as opposed to how @PoliceNG make traffic stops at their roadblocks of extortion. Read👇

Distinguished, an Advocacy like ours can’t be hijacked. It will outlive all of us. Your protest is your right but if you choose to commercialize it & exchange it for Jollof rice on the Highway, that choice, people like us will have to respect. Cheers
I may not agree with the opportunists exploiting your vulnerability but I will forever support your rights to express your discontent. All I am saying is that we shouldn’t inconvenience others and make things worse. People’s businesses are suffering as we dance on the precipice.
Trust me I understand. There’s so much despair and our youth have nothing to lose. Unfortunately, our authorities are using old tactics to engage a new generation that is far more exposed than their rulers. You can’t divide us with religion, politics and ethnicity like before.

We’ve been monitoring the detention of @HarrisonBbi18 for days now. There’s no case here save for the attempt by the Commissioner of @PoliceNG in Delta to punish Harrison for reporting the crimes of rogue police officers in the state. The police is now run as a cult. #EndImpunity
Several threats were issued to Harrison for going public on the extortion of innocent citizens by rogue police officers in Delta state and the CP took this as an attack on his command instead of addressing the actual rot. He is bent on keeping Harrison locked up because he can.

So I left my house this morning with 2 of my friends, heading to warri from Lagos for my brother's wedding. We took Muyi line. Getting to Epe, an AKS police group stopped the vehicle and asked me and 1 of my friends to get down along with other people.
I explained I was a Sales coordinator working for Rifugio communications limited. They searched heaven and earth till they saw the word "client" on a whatsapp chat.
I was handcuffed and forced into their vehicle and taken into via a bushy route into one Eredo police station, still in Epe. The police man called "Scorpion" kept tightening the cuff and said if I do not pay N100,000 I'd be looked in a cell without anyone knowing my whereabouts

Corrupt misfits stuck as clogs in the wheels of most institution always believe they are members of a cult group. The “You want to teach me my job?” mentally reinforces their impunity even in their delusion that only members of their cult has the right to correct them. ⛱
It is true for corrupt police officers as it is true for charge and bail lawyers milking vulnerable members of society of funds illegally for a living. They know themselves and will always rise to the occasion to defend impunity no matter how absurd it sounds/looks. #EndImpunity
When you question their impunity, they will always want to distract by stating that you are not Greek enough. This destructive, unethical and toxic behavior must be condemned by everyone with a pulse. The criminal justice system is ruining lives & we must all take responsibility.

The objective of the Bill is to provide for a more efficient and effective police SERVICE that is based on the principles of; Accountability and Transparency, Protection of Human Rights & Fundamental Freedoms, & Partnership with other security agencies. @ayemojubar please note.
Here are specific objectives of this Bill. Which simply means any police officer that violates the fundamental objective of the establishment law has broken the law of the land even while prosecuting an actual suspect. Suffice to say that the full implementation will help a lot.
