I was nearly killed by a serial rapist a few years ago.
The first thing the SVU detective said to me was "if you are lying we will prosecute you."
Later--after he had seen the extent of my injuries--he said he said he was sorry, but this was something they "had" to say.

Fewer than 2% of rape accusations are false.
Only 3% of rapes get prosecuted.
Given these numbers, maybe if we started believing women, more rapists would be prosecuted & fewer women would be raped.
It's just a theory.

What I know for sure as a writer and rape survivor is that no one "sells books" by being a rape victim.
No rape victim wants to be known as such.
Those of us who do come forward do so to try and prevent more rapes. Men who aren't rapists should be helping that effort.
