This day in 1999, the ceasefire in #Kargil was in its sixth day, to give the Paakis an opportunity to vacate the heights they were still in possession of. But, true to their 'style', the fcukers, instead of vacating, went about happily mining the approaches to those positions.

Pakistan's tried & tested template.Don't ask for prosecution of terrorists for past terror attacks.Let's start afresh (till the next terror attack)
India has repeatedly fallen for it
1. IC 814 hijack
2. Parliament Attack
3. J&K Assembly
4. 26/11 Mumbai
5. Ind emb Kabul
Long list
#Pakistan targeted India with impunity because Indian leadership was told they are a nuclear weapon state India cannot respond. A strong pro Pak lobby played the Pak game of dialogue despite terror for peace in the sub continent. Uninterrupted & uninterruptible dialogue tamasha.
So even after 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks India did not hit back, resulting in more terror attacks. ISI tested PM @narendramodi's resolve too. Terror attacks on our consulate in Afghanistan & strikes at Pathankot, Gurdaspur... Uri & Pulwama resulted in #Surgicalstrikes & #Balakot

Agree #Kargil was what you can call watershed moment for #Pakistan. Nation went through hell to get Nukes (economic exclusion from global system) so we can finally achieve closure on any future war while maintaining relevance for dialogue/negotiations with bigger India 1/3
All was lost in another half cooked & planned #OpGibraltar 2.0. It also exposed why world was right to not let Pakistan get nukes. COAS initiating this large scale operation without informing sitting govt & then stupidly calling from Beijing to see howтАЩs govt is holding up. 2/3

Nothing in life is 0-1, its always a matter of degree. But 1 question remains unanswered (@VivekKatju ): Why is it that till recently (Dolam?), 90% of the world's elite (broadly defined) believed/supported Pakistan & China's version of their realations/interactions with us?
2/ #Myth of global credibility(on JK)is exposed by #Kargil reality; We were so scared of using aircraft to bomb Kargil heights (on our side of LOC) bcs bombs may fall on other side of LOC or a plane may cross it for a few secs, that we sacrificed 500 lives to scale Ladakh heights
3/risk Contrast this with Bangladesh, where we took risks to achieve Strategic victory. Tying your own hands behind back & sacrificing soldiers, is not national risk taking, killing other side's aggressing Jehadis & soldiers is risk taking(it requires frgn support, funds & planing

As always he speaks from the heart. #Kargil war hero #MVC winner Col Sonam Wangchuk tells me if he had a weapon & CO was being targeted he would have used it, even if as a club. Unless own troops were completely overwhelmed by numerically more Chinese soldiers. On #IndiaFirst
Many gaps in assessment since we don't have the full picture. On a narrow ledge in close quarter combat in pitch dark how do you fire a weapon without being sure it won't hit one of your own brothers-in-arms. Will army decide or Netas & analysts about tactical operations.
One assessment of more Chinese casualties at #Galwan is that when more troops rushed on the ledge & it gave way, more of theirs went crashing down into the freezing river. All of ours are accounted for are all of theirs accounted for too from the nullah?Or #PLA couldn't care less

A beautiful scene that belies the lack of modern High calibre #artilleryguns in the #IndianArmy & serves as a reminder that 21 years after the Field #artillery Rationalization plan was drafed to remedy deficiencies exposed during #Kargil they remain diminished.
Thread below
The FARP projection envisaged the acquisition of around 3000 #artillery pieces which were subdivided into 814 truck-mounted guns, 1,580 towed guns, 100 tracked self-propelled guns, 180 wheeled self-propelled guns and 145 ultra-light howitzers.
Some 2819 guns in all.
Out of this projected requirement only the requirement for ULWH ( Ultra light weight howitzers has been addressed with the ongoing acquisition of 145 @BAESystemsInc @MahindraRise M777 155/39 guns.
There is some chatter on an additional 290 gun requirement that remains open.

1/n) 8 years ago on 7 April 2012, the #PakistanArmy suffered heavy losses when an avalanche struck the Gayari Camp in the Bilafond Glacier

The camp was a major logistic base for that sector & housed ~140 people. At that time elements of 6th Northern Light Infantry of #Pakistan
2/n) was stationed there. The camp had a major road which connected to Goma, it had helipads, quite a few buildings to support a major logistics base and nearby gun placements too.. it was on the Gayari river and was considered safe..
The avalanche which struck from the west of the camp buried it under 70 ft of snow and rocks.. there was nothing left of the camp as can be seen in this image.. and no survivors..

The loss of the camp was a setback to the Pakistani position in that area..
