The appearance of this guy tells you what you need to know about the true seriousness and core values of the Aspen Ideas Festival. It's designed to provide comfort to the khakis and blazers crowd. Paul Ryan hasn't had a genuine, intellectually honest idea in his life.
The cult of bipartisanship (which is in actually coddling conservative extremists) and civility above all is killing the planet and has resulted in children dying in U.S. custody, but by all means, invite one of the architects of our doom for a polite conversation.
I sound like a radical, but I promise I'm not. I actually believe in the values the country was founded on (life, liberty, pursuit of happiness). It's folks like Paul Ryan who don't, and yet there he is, at the ideas festival, given cover by the class of very serious people.
Paul Ryan should be shunned from the arena of serious policy discussion. He's always been a joke and he was a failure as an elected representative. He has nothing to add to the discussion.
I mean, if you're a festival dedicated to ideas, how about inviting some folks with new ones? The old ones don't seem to be working so good.
