Is it a book deal or a presidential run, do you think? Either way, why are news organizations falling for it?
Seriously, news orgs, you don't need to have this guy on just because his flacks made him available for a certain time slot. Have me on instead. I'm way more fun.
This is standard operating procedure, by the way. Press flacks will send an email to an interviewer to get more face time or air time for their clients. "Hi, PBS Newshour! My name is Jimmy Joe Bob and I'm with Phil McCreviss's re-election campaign. He'd love to talk to you about
Trump/Biden/presidents/his presidential run. McCreviss's press avails are all this week between 8am and 6pm. He's a huge fan and we'd love to see him on your show!" Rinse and repeat as desired. Then they always work in their plug somewhere in the interview. Press relations, man.
By the way, the green shield you see is NewsGuard. I've been using it for a few months and love it. I had forgotten it's not standard. newsguardtech.com
Another way this sort of thing is done is if you are part of an event, say sponsoring or underwriting it, you'll get interviews done as a quid pro quo of sorts.
