Stone cairns are the #14er hiker's lodestone. I lost the trail briefly & had a mild panic attack when I suddenly couldn't see the way up, I calmed myself down & backtracked carefully until I found the trail again. #14er

3/4 of the way to the peak, where thankfully, there is a parking lot for tourists. Faster & safer to continue forward than to backtrack.
Worried about the family we met & passed on the way up.

It got real nasty, real fast.
I heard zaps & buzzing inside of my hat.
My boyfriend's hair was LITERALLY standing on end.
He got shocked by his poles a couple of times too.
We were walking lightning rods.

Still hailing on us too.

We were in SO much danger.
Nothing to do but keep moving & get to safety, & hopefully a ride back to our car. There is no shelter up here. Mt Evans is a giant lump of iron!

We noticed the sun was coming out again, & so we decided to drive up to the summit parking lot & see if the weather would clear up. So close to the summit, we didn't want to give up completely. #14er #TeamPete @PeteButtigieg

Footnote: The family we passed & were worried about, they made it safely. They were far enough behind us, that when they got up to where we were in stormy conditions...it had cleared up! They had a 10yr old who was determined to finish, despite being from sea-level & feeling sick
