/ The good folks at @CUSC_CCREU just put out their regular triennial survey of first-year students across 46 universities (I believe the largest survey ever). And there are, as usual, some fascinating stories. Here are a few of them:
/ Here's maybe the most important one: proportion of first-year students identifying as a visible minority. For comparison, in the 2016 census, 27% of 15-24 year-olds similarly self-identify.
/ Disabilities. 24% of first-year students self-identify as having a disability/impairment, of which, 58% indicated they had a mental health issue (students may list more than one disability/impairment), The big jump in 13 was mostly due to a change in Q to include mental health
/ Working arrangements: students continue to work slightly less than those from a generation ago. 38% said they are currently employed; those employed report working on average 13.8 hours per week.
/ There are a whole bunch of other interesting findings (though many do not have long time series due to changing questions). The 2019 survey (and all previous surveys) available here; cusc-ccreu.ca/?page_id=32&la…. Thanks to the @CUSC_CCREU folks for all their work.
