Memo to the "intellectual" anti-cbn milk interventionists

1. Is milk subsidized?

2. Who benefits most from cbn forex for milk importation?

3. By how much will milk rise for the poor if the policy kicks in?

4. Will the policy actually encourage investment into local dairy?
5. Is N60 difference on the dollar enough to cause milk scarcity when there is actually no ban?

6. Nigeria imports over 2 million tonnes of milk annually at a cost of between $500 - $600m

Wouldn't the scarce resources be better spent creating jobs to achieve the same end?
7. A cow is a walking composite factory of leather, milk (including baby food), soap, gum, and allied beef derivatives

Just like crude oil in Nigeria where we export crude and import its constituents, whereas we only account for petrol and diesel from sales,

Cows in Nigeria are
viewed only from the angle of beef.

Won't the creation of an allied beef industry be more beneficial to Nigeria's jobless youths than importation?

8. Our thinkers complain about poor government spending on infrastructure as well as a high cost of doing business, in addition
to almost nonexistent electricity to boost manufacturing.

Don't you think a focus on building the domestic milk value chain will expand the economy in the direction of increased govt revenues?

9. How many large African economies import milk like Nigeria does? SA, Rwanda, Kenya?
10. When you spout these "herd mentality" tropes about fuel subsidy, and health tourism, are you actually studying facts and figures, or are you just being confused and silly?

11. What do you consider as "Nigeria". Is it your narrow band of selfish elite (numbering less than 10%
Of Nigeria's population), or is it the almost 200million suffering and almost hopeless mass of poverty scattered across the huge expanse of Nigeria's geography?

12. How else would you suggest govt creates jobs and solves the security problems created by herder-farmer clashes, if
not by ending the practice of nomadism?

13. Do you even care?

14. What is it you really want sef?

These are just my early morning ruminations on a beautiful Saturday morning.
