Eila Corbin, once an ambitious university student, now must juggle two lives: one as an elf, the other pretending to be human.
Llewellyn "Wells" Grenolly, the prodigal son, heir to a great elven House. He prefers to spend his nights dancing and taking humans to bed.
Aithne Argent'claire, youngest elf of 12, does his duty collecting magical objects for the Homelands stolen by humans.
Eila goes through a rigorous training as an elf in magic, language, martial arts, etc. while also battling with family losses and an overloaded university schedule. She goes from happy to stretched thin.
Wells discovers he can love someone new.
Eila's afraid she'll die before reconnecting with Aithne in the future, where she left him.
Aithne is afraid he'll never be able to have the love he seeks.
Wells is afraid to return home.
Eila: pansexual, cis
Wells: omnisexual, gender non-conforming
Aithne: demisexual, genderfluid
Eila is 18 at the start of Seal Breaker and about 25 by the end.
Wells is a little over two centuries old.
Aithne thinks he's lived more than three centuries, but definitely less than a millennium.
Eila: My fat tabby, Bryony.
Wells: Eila.
Eila: Hey!
Aithne: ... *makes a small gesture toward Khraesch*
Khraesch: *hits Aithne's head with the pitchfork handle*
Exchange between Eila and Tom in Seal Breaker:
“Maybe they’re not on the walls,” [Eila] said, taking a swig of water, and picked up a pair of gloves.
“Are you saying you found something?”
“I’m saying I have an idea,” she said.
Aithne:
“It is not the first time a Lost Child has been reticent to come with us, but it was the first one who continued to fight once realizing his fate. His human family loved and accepted him as he was, though he might never have discovered his potential.”
“Let me go with you.”
“To Seattle, decades from now?” she teased.
He chuckled. “Sure, that too! But no; let me go with you to Sarajevo, and wherever else Waldorf sends you. I’m worried about what might happen, and if I’m close at hand, ..."
Aithne: To share love with someone until the end of my days.
Eila: Aithne.
Wells: Aithne and Eila.
Aeri: Have you all heard of the good word of polyamory?
Aeri (cont): I most wish to make my way back to the world of the living, kiss my undead girlfriend, and become the best damned enchanter Aelona'ti AND the Prime have ever seen.
Eila: ... No.
Wells: Not in the slightest, and I'm terrified Eila won't survive the Council's punishment.
Aithne: I am tired, but I feel we have accomplished some good.
Aeri: I'm worried, but we can get through this.
Marshall: No! My family's gone!
Eila: Librarian.
Aithne: Bounty hunter; street juggler.
Wells: Rock star; TV actor.
Aeri: Counselor.
Eila: Hell yes.
Wells: Fuck yes.
Aithne: Yes, but only in Aelethe.
Aeri: I can cast a few curses, but they're not my forte.
Eila: I don’t know. My parents think they know me. Marshall knows far too much for a little kid. I suppose after a while, Wells got to know me pretty well.
Aithne: My advisor, Khraesch.
Wells: I thought Aithne did, but I’m not sure.
Aeri: Lucky and Mateo.
Aithne: Portal.
Wells: Portal.
Aeri: Portal.
Eila: … have none of y’all heard of walking? Hitching a ride?
Eila: Silver ear cuff to hide my true self and mana-charged ruby. Cash, ID, debit card, emergency credit card. Backpack with necessities, like change of clothes, pocket knife, notebook, some pens, extra cash not on my person, snacks, tissues …
1/
Aithne: Mana crystals, silver chalk, fetishes and charmed items.
Wells: Mana crystals, charmed jewelry, condoms, keys, fetishes—both kinds.
/2
Eila: Usually a top and slacks. Sometimes a nice dress. Leggings and sports top when working out. One piece when swimming. I’m fond of sandals in summer and boots the rest of the time. Warm scarves, light sweaters in cold months. 1/
Wells: I have 6 closets. Where do I start? If it sparkles, is made of satin, velvet, or leather, looks good for clubbing, or helps me pass as an approachable human? I probably have it. Heels to high tops, boas to bow ties, khakis to kimonos, lovely. 2/
Aithne: Whatever is appropriate for the activity or persona I utilize. At home, a tank top and pants. Court or hunting attire for the Homelands, a ghitijan when Collecting, suits for Kirchner, leather for Starr, dresses with belts for Chasti— *covers his mouth*
Eila: Trimmed when they're too long and cleaned often. I wear gloves on dig sites, but not when helping Tricia make pottery.
Wells: Neat, short, manicured.
Aithne: Clean and long. Wells informed me that when I marry, I should trim two of my fingernails.
Aithne: I work primarily at night.
Aeri: This incredible party. Want to come? You should come. I want you to and I always get my way.
Wells: Whoever came home with me that night.
Eila: School work and whoever Wells is doing upstairs that night.
Eila: Sometimes I bite my nails when nervous and sometimes I throw myself into casual sex to avoid dealing with bigger issues.
Wells: Ha! You can’t really expect me to answer that. 1/
Aithne: … I refuse to answer.
Khraesch: You mope about the apartment sighing about not being allowed romance, and take out your frustrations on your teammates by pretending you have no emotions at all.
A: Wells pouts!
W: *gasps, clutches pearls*
2/
Eila: You also throw yourself into casual sex every night to avoid dealing with ALL your problems.
Aithne: It is true.
Wells: *pouts* Don’t make me drag out your poetry journal.
Aithne: I do not believe you would dare.
/3
Eila: I work hard to not be prescriptivist, but “fayne innocents”? Really?! Also, the way certain people chew drives me up the wall. Oh, and having people decide my fate for me, kidnap me, or otherwise try to control my life. Ha! So unreasonable!
1/
Aithne: Pet peeve? Being lied to.
Wells: Corduroy. People who drink pilsners. Family politics.
/2
Eila knows half the staff’s names and anecdotes about their families. 20% tipper.
Aithne is polite and leaves an adequate tip where tips are expected.
Wells leaves a 25% tip ... and his phone number.
Aeri *is* wait staff (a servant in House Silverlight).
E: Religious? No. Agnostic pagan.
W: For the love of Ael, I’m not sure how to answer, since human religions play no part in the lives of aelves.
Aithne: Llewellyn is correct. We have our own parables and stories, though they can be confirmed and proved.
Eila: I love my parents and nephew, though the former relationship has been distant of late. My sister and I love each other, but … I’m not ok with her choices.
1/
Aithne: I honor my family with my actions and deeds. I love my mother and respect my father. My sixth eldest sibling and I are on strained terms.
Wells: … I left home the day after my Rite. I don’t think my younger brothers would even recognize me.
/2
W: I don’t dwell on the past or future; I prefer to live in the present.
A: The future holds the promise of marriage, and in time, love. It helps move me forward.
E: Having been to the future, I’m really hoping I don’t die or screw up the timeline.
Wells: Why? Need some investment tips?
Eila: Better than most uni students, but still not great. If I hadn’t started working for Waldorf, I’d probably be up to my pointed ears in debt.
1/
Aithne: Money is a tool, and Llewellyn taught me how to utilize it to its full effect, but we only ever have what we need to maintain our home, equipment, food, team salaries, and other necessities for our work.
/2
Eila: Let’s each do one another’s answers for this.
Wells: All right.
Aithne: That is acceptable.
E: Aithne is disciplined, cunning, stealthy, and has a gentle heart. He also has a goofy sense of humor when he lets his guard down.
1/
Aithne: Llewellyn is charismatic, generous, and despite appearances, has an incredible mind, especially for politics and financial matters. His cooking rivals that of some of master chefs.
Wells: You forgot my incredible fashion sense.
A: *laughs*
2/
Wells: Eila is warm, focused, and possesses a keen insight; she sees things in ways no one else does that I’ve met. She dedicates herself fiercely to both her studies and the needs of others.
/3
Eila: I have a hard time letting things go: research, ideas, cruelty, etc. Aithne struggles with his code of ethics and dreams vs. his family's expectations. Wells? Restraint.
Wells: I'm quite good with restraints, tyvm.
Eila: Dance with friends, workout ... *mumbles something*
Wells: What was that?
Eila: Same thing you do when you're stressed.
Wells: Make tea?
Eila: *glares* Never mind.
Wells: Oh, love, no. /That's/ not for stress relief. That's for amusement.
Casting Amakai series is hard; I have a set vision of my characters. I thought Aithne could be played by Andreja Pejic before she came out, but I don't know how she'd feel playing a man, but I recently came across Xing Ye's photos. He certainly looks the part
Eila's harder. She has to go from mid-fat human to taller, plump elf with red hair. As an elf, after several decades, I saw her looking more like Christina Hendricks, but younger? There aren't enough fat actors with enough celebrity for me to even name one.
Llewellyn "Wells" Grenolly might be the most difficult to pin down. I've used reference images I've collected of random, unnamed models to manga characters. Eliot by Hale Appleman has the right presence; @MischiefsArt suggested Park Hyung-Sik.
The easiest? If I could start casting today to start filming the Amakai series, the first person I'd request be brought in to audition for Aeri is @Kieraplease because she has the energy, voice, and appearance of my absolute favorite character.
