Dipped a toe in Remedy’s “Control” before bed last night. Lots of fun. The go-to review comparisons are Twin Peaks & X-Files, but the most overt influences are actually Grant Morrison & the criminally underrated SyFy miniseries The Lost Room.
Jesse’s interaction with The Board are straight carbon copies of an encounter with Barbelith from Morrison’s Invisibles, right down to the Extradimensional Intelligence as Simple Geometric Shape and the Untranslateable Alien Concepts Subtitled in Brackets...
And whoever came up with the Objects of Power was clearly binging Lost Room the night before. Not that any of this is a complaint; the aesthetic is wonderfully weird.

This is apparently a photo Trump got during a presidential intelligence briefing (and almost certainly TS), from which Iran can draw valuable inferences about our aerial surveillance capabilities. Heck of a job, Donnie.
Once again, Trump’s compulsion to brag about the amazing intelligence he’s privy to because he’s so very important overrides even the most basic security considerations. Betting there are lots of migraines at NRO/NGA/CIA this afternoon.
Getting a whole lot of derp in response to this. Maybe the photo doesn’t tell YOU anything; I promise it’s more informative to experts. To pick a couple obvious points: The time & position of the image capture. Our understanding (or misunderstanding) of their facilities.

Reading the IG report on Comey’s memos now. My first pass reaction is that it documents some technical policy violations that are almost embarrassingly trivial, though I’m sure we’re about to see a vigorous effort to present them as serious. oig.justice.gov/reports/2019/o…
For instance: The IG finds Comey’s contemporaneous memo documenting his February 2017 conversation with Trump about Flynn was an FBI document created “in the course of his duties.” But he could’ve equally easily just remembered the conversation and related it 3 months later.
As for Comey’s supposed leaking of classified information, the IG found that one of the memos Comey shared with his attorneys contained exactly one word that the FBI properly classified at the lowest level (CONFIDENTIAL) after the fact.

No, it really isn’t. Echoes of the broader crypto backdoor debate, where people who really ought to know better confuse “mathematically secure on a blackboard” with “actually secure in implementation.”
Pretty sure this is why a lot of policymakers & law enforcement officials seem convinced security experts are all just lying for ideological reasons when they say you can’t do backdoors securely. They ask their own geeks & get an answer to the blackboard question.
At a very high level of abstraction, it’s not that hard to model a backdoor mechanism that is “secure” in a purely formal sense. It’s just not much consolation when your nudes informally show up on 8chan.

Last night on @abc730 Australian Energy Council (peak body for big energy generators & retailers) said people should have to go through their retailer to do demand response, saying "that direct contractual relationship has worked very well”. Let's look at how well that's worked.
In PIAC’s submission to the AEMC’s consultation on the DR rule change last year, we note that in its 2018 wholesale electricity market performance report, the AER found wholesale DR by retailers actually decreased between 2017 and 2018. bit.ly/2KBnXxj
Research we conducted in 2018 showed only 1 of 23 NSW retailers offered DR to residential customers when contacted. It’s very unlikely customers would be able to find a retailer willing to do DR on request; over 99.99% of NSW households would be required to change retailers.

Last night's incident in Gaza was a routine operation gone wrong, not an assassination attempt that would have escalated the situation.
The unit executing the op, Sayeret Maglan, routinely installs devices necessary for the collection of SIGINT beyond enemy lines.

Something went wrong & the unit was detected. In the ensuing firefight & ex-filtration, 7 Hamas members were killed & 7 injured. The deputy commander of Maglan, a Lt. Colonel, was killed & another officer in the unit was injured. Both Israeli casualties are Druze.

I did something similar to this 5 years ago, in anticipation of EC & @theroots' Wise Up Ghost LP, on tumblr.

(You can still find all those posts if you look, although a lot of the YouTube links etc are now dead ends. It was 40 Days Of EC then, so for 2018 I'm upping it to 45.)
Mostly I will be going chronologically from the early years right up to the present, but it feels right to start out with Costello's 2002 song, "45."

He wakes up once again to an empty room. He looks for his phone which he finds at the dresser with his car key. His shoes neatly arranged next to the closet and curtains drawn.

He checks the bathroom but there is no sign of the younger.

Failing to have his call picked up,
he sends a text and starts to feel anxious.

Did Kyungsoo run away?

He opens the closet and finds their bags with their wallets inside. It means the other only has his phone with him.

And he's not answering any calls and texts.

He's seriously getting worried.
If before, he could contact his cousin and ask of his whereabouts, right now he doesn't have anyone to turn to.

Just then the door opens, revealing a drenched Kyungsoo. The younger just stands there, at the doorway with a bashful smile.

"What happened to you? Why are you wet?"
