No, it really isn’t. Echoes of the broader crypto backdoor debate, where people who really ought to know better confuse “mathematically secure on a blackboard” with “actually secure in implementation.”
Pretty sure this is why a lot of policymakers & law enforcement officials seem convinced security experts are all just lying for ideological reasons when they say you can’t do backdoors securely. They ask their own geeks & get an answer to the blackboard question.
At a very high level of abstraction, it’s not that hard to model a backdoor mechanism that is “secure” in a purely formal sense. It’s just not much consolation when your nudes informally show up on 8chan.
