I will never stop believing that Nancy Pelosi and Democratic leadership have spent 2019 enacting one of the most unforgivably dangerous and deadly political strategies in history.

They're risking the 2020 elections. Not the risk of losing them. The risk that they won't happen.

His whole life has been a string of gross and obvious Sharpie marker lies that nobody ever called him on.

He lies like a child lies.

It's almost like he discovered our whole system is set up to let rich white guys cheat, and the only limitation is a sense of personal shame.
The most that can be done, after a lifetime spent telling provable untruths, is to frame the next lie as a question.

"DID this person who tells obvious lies every day tell THIS obvious lie?"

Which gives him the opening he needs: The chance to lie, shamelessly, "no, I didn't."
He lies when it doesn't matter.

He lies even when the truth would serve him better.

He lies, because to him lying is ALWAYS preferable.

He knows a critical mass will agree with the lie—ANY lie—just so they can move on and get back to normal.

Which is how 'normal' changes.

First, let's state the obvious:

Donald Trump's entire presidency is an impeachable offense, an affront to basic human values, an insult to common sense and common decency, a threat to the rule of law.

A note on #impeachment -

In a court of law, under non-presidential circumstances, impeachment is a tool litigation attorneys use to discredit the opposing side's witnesses at trial. When said witness takes the stand under oath attys. present evidence contrary to what the witness
claims. This weakens the other side's case by discrediting impeached witnesses's testimony. Once a witness has been impeached - by presentment of inconsistent testimony - the judge/jury can no longer use the impeached witnesses's testimony in reaching a verdict.
Simply put, they aren't trustworthy. In the case of Presidential impeachment that broad definition of impeachment applies, but the impeachment tool is used for a very different purpose. Under the Constitution, a sitting President cannot be tried in a court of law for anything.

2. As with most issues before Congress, substance and politics are closely related but distinguishable. As to substance, the argument -- persuasive to me -- is that obstruction of justice, contacts with Russians seeking to influence a US election, corruption and the rest...
3...will do mortal damage to American democracy if tolerated. Not proceeding toward impeachment proceedings means tolerating all of these things, though it is possible to deceive oneself on that point. The political argument @NateSilver538 makes is about American voters.
