Last night I went to @hb_stylo's Public Sector Design meetup at Registers of Scotland to see great talks by @KatHusbands and @kirsty_joan.

After saying goodbye I walked off looking for the lift. I saw a door leading to some stairs and thought that I'd take the healthy option ...
@hb_stylo @KatHusbands @kirsty_joan I walked down the stairs and got to the ground floor but when I tried to open the door it was locked. No bother, I thought, I'll just go back to the 3rd floor and take the lift.

Alas, the door to the 3rd floor was closed ...
@hb_stylo @KatHusbands @kirsty_joan I banged on the door and shouted "HELLLLO" trying to get someone to let me back in, but got nothing.

SHIT.

There was an emergency button connected to some intercom system so pressed that.

Immediately, an emergency beep started to sound, but no one answered ...
I tried shouting again (I had been in the stairwell for about 10 minutes by this point).

Then I remembered that I had Facebook details for @hb_stylo and @StephanieKrus so tried to give them a ring through Messenger.

No reply ...
At this point I was pretty sure that I was going to be spending the night in a stair well.

Still, I thought it was worth trying some of the other doors and I walked down as far as the stairs would take me and to my relief the door led to an exit ...
Now I found myself in a deserted car park surrounded by a wirefence.

Thankfully, I am a ninja and managed to escape by jumping over the fence.
Lesson learned: if you are in an unfamiliar building, ask before walking off.
Here's @KatHusbands talking about bringing guerilla UX techniques to the University of Glasgow quoting some very wise designer or other.
@KatHusbands And @kirsty_joan before her talk on her experience working in Kyrgyzstan.
