YAB Perdana Menteri Tun Dr Mahathir bin Mohamad & isteri tiba di Lapangan Terbang Westchester Country, Amerika Syarikat jam 12:20 tengahari waktu tempatan. Dr Mahathir dalam lawatan kerja selama 5 hari sempena #UNGA ke 74 & dijadual menyampaikan ucaptama pada 27 September nanti.
Let us start by calling a spade, a spade. What happened in the Rakhine State is genocide. What took place were mass killings, systematic rape and other gross violations of human rights. This resulted in Rohingyas fleeing the country en masse. Most ended up in Cox’s Bazar.
Myanmar authorities have denied access to some UN officials and humanitarian aid workers. If Myanmar has nothing to hide, why bar others from seeing the situation in Rakhine? Let these officials and aid workers visit, inspect and assist those living in the camps.
Myanmar should demonstrate that it is serious in alleviating the crisis. In doing so, repatriation should be the main priority. Two attempts have been made to repatriate some of the refugees. Both have failed. Reasons for this are obvious.
No one would return if they do not feel that their safety is guaranteed. On this, Malaysia will continue to insist that repatriation be done in a safe, voluntary and dignified manner.

I am exercising my right to free speech. Why is it that I can’t say something against the Jews when a lot of people say nasty things about me and about Malaysia and I didn’t protest? I didn’t demonstrate.
We have to be willing to listen to views which are not in our favour because of free speech. Free speech is about free speech.

We have formulated a new objective for the government. We want to have shared prosperity between town and country, state and state, between different races and between rich and poor.
All these things need to be corrected. Not actually being equal of course but the disparities must be reduced & this must be reflected in the next budget. That means of course that we will give less to the more prosperous & more to the less prosperous.

- Session at JP Morgan HQ
We need to ensure the earth will be able to exist in its best form to provide the services and environment that humans need. Thus, we need to responsibly use and protect our natural resources and environment by conserving and do things sustainably.
#EnvironmentalStewardship
This effort needs to be adopted by all people at all levels for us to succeed, especially in addressing the impact of climate change. We believe that the unsustainable use of natural resources and neglecting the environment, have much to do with these changes.

Malaysia accepts the state of Israel as a fait accompli. But it cannot accept the blatant seizure of Palestine land by Israel for their settlements as well as the occupation of Jerusalem by Israel. The Palestinians cannot even enter the settlements built on their land.
The great democrats talk incessantly about the rule of law. But they are selective. Friends may break any law and get away scot-free.
Thus, Israel can break all the international laws and norms of the world and it will continue to be supported and defended. The unfriendly countries can do nothing right. There is no justice in the world.
The helplessness of the world in stopping atrocities inflicted on the Rohingyas in Myanmar had reduced the regard for the resolution of the UN. Now, despite UN resolution on Jammu and Kashmir, the country has been invaded and occupied.
There may be reasons for this action but it is still wrong. The problem must be solved by peaceful means. India should work with Pakistan to resolve this problem. Ignoring the UN would lead to other forms of disregard for the UN and the Rule of Law.
The world is experiencing climate change. Malaysia is hotter than ever before. It does not seem to return to previous temperatures. In fact, it seems to be getting hotter.
I have a feeling that these disasters are a part of the cycles of change that our planet has been going through for millions of years. Can it be that the stable salubrious climate that we have been enjoying has come to the end of its cycle?
Could it be that the cycle is changing, as it did in prehistoric millions of years? Is it possible that the temperatures rise to a level that living conditions would become unbearable?
I think, instead of preparing for war, we should be paying attention to the climate changes and accompanying natural disasters. We should be preparing to combat climate change, to bring back the normal environment we had been used to over the last thousands of years.
We should be preparing ourselves for major earthquakes, typhoons and hurricanes, floods and landslides etc. We should learn how to mitigate these natural disasters. We should be constructing shelters, make rain and grow food without sunlight, evacuate the sea side etc.
All these natural disasters may not happen of course. But we cannot rely on that. We are wasting our money preparing for wars, inventing ever more destructive weapons, when all of us may be wiped out by natural disasters as the planet goes through its next cycle.
The UN has failed in protecting the poor from the scourge of war. But in other fields it has done much better. It has contributed to better health, to alleviating the sufferings of some of the poor and the needy.
It does provide a degree of security and stability in places plagued by internal conflicts. It can do more. But it is short of funds. Countries including the very rich are not paying their dues. It is shameful.
We need to support the UN even though it has failed to banish wars. Its work on health, education and social security make the UN worth having.
