David Bentley Hart says that the idea that "God poured out his wrath on sin, or that the Son was discharging a debt humanity owed the Father, or that Christ's blood was shed as a price paid by the Son to the Father"--all of that--is "degrading nonsense."

The quotations above are from Hart's new book arguing for Universalism, THAT ALL SHALL BE SAVED, pp. 24-25. If you want to witness a Universalist's contempt for the God of the Bible, then this is your book. Otherwise, I don't recommend it.

It is error of the first order to read our sinful experience of temptation into Jesus’ sinless experience of temptation. That error often emerges from an incorrect reading of Hebrews 4:15.

The text says that Jesus was tempted in every way as we are, YET WITHOUT SIN (Heb. 4:15). That last part is the key. Not only did he never commit a sinful deed, he never had a sinful thought. Nor did he have a sinful nature.

Because Jesus has no sin nature, he never experienced the internal temptations to evil that we experience as a consequence of our sinful nature. He could be tempted from the outside (e.g. by Satan I’m the wilderness) but not from the inside (i.e. from a sinful nature).

@USATODAY Public school officials and health professionals are not lifting a finger to help this child. They know better, but they are afraid to speak out because every one of them owes a living to employers/licensing agencies that have been swallowed whole by transgender propaganda.

I’ll refrain from speculating about the motives of those referring to Christians as “Easter Worshipers.” But I will say this, people would do well to understand how God’s word uses the term “Christian.” /1
The term “Christian” only occurs three times in all of the Bible—in Acts 11:26, 26:28, and 1Pet. 4:16.

In Acts, the term “Christian” designates those who are followers of Christ (i.e. disciples).

“The disciples were first called Christians in Antioch.” -Acts 11:26

In 1 Peter, the term “Christian” designates those who are willing to be persecuted for following Christ.

“If anyone suffers as a Christian, he is not to be ashamed, but is to glorify God in this name.” -1 Peter 4:16

Sadly not many quotations from George MacDonald appear in this 200 page book but #DBHart does praise George MacDonald many times.
Generally the book is void of quotations in general and I know it's not fair to criticize a book based on what it doesn't say. But where the hell are the references or quotations from Christoph Blumhardt or his father Johann?

In the Third Meditation (very Cartesian headings) of David Bentley Hart's #ThatAllShallBeSaved, he provides a helpful (yet terse) commentary on Paul's sermon in Roman 9-11 regarding "Jacob I loved, Esau I hated", demonstrating the rejecting of one brother, ultimately saves both.
#DBHart argues that this literary unit with Romans is wrongly used to justify a double judgement with one part being identify as "vessels of wrath" due to ancestral sin, but the loci actually demonstrates the salvation of all through the rejection of one brother
It may be true for Augustine that original sin is a sexually transmitted disease #STD and sin is concupiscence but this is not the reformed tradition's understanding of it. So he is flat wrong to lump Reformed in with this older Catholic dogma.

This page follows a long platonic diatribe arguing that NT Greek word for "eternity" does not mean perpetual time without end, and an attempt to reduce eternal torment to a bounded expitory purgatory, scoping down from a life time to a single year or less
And now #DBHart appeals to Karl Barth (CD IV/1) to show the final judgement isn't eternal because it has already occured at Calvary.

5. Jesus took on 100% humanity. He therefore has 2 natures in one person. This is called the hypostatic union. 100% God and 100% man. He has a real human mind, body, soul, will etc. He gave up nine of His Divine nature in becoming human.
