David Bentley Hart writes that he has "very all patience for this kind of hopeful universalism" represented by Hans Urs von Balthasar
#DBH argues that Christians who hope for universalism believe that God is a "failed creator" if their hope may not be realized #ThatAllShallBeSaved
And pace #DBH to doubt all shall be saved is tantamount to doubting what "God had accomplished in Christ"
In other words, God must do what humans thinks is best.
Au contraire, has #DBH read a page of Feuerbuach? Is this not the beast of natural revelation that Karl Barth warned us about? Dare we believe that God may do something other than what lowly creatures demand?
Karl Barth argued against #apokatastasis because it obligates God to do as this doctrine commands. Eternal life is an enigma and Barth said this art exhibit had not been revealed, so we dare to hope in a surprise ending that we know not how it will play out.
#DBH admits that "this is an exorbitant and somewhat insolent claim, I realize" and I appreciate his bold assertion for the sake of convincing more Christians to be emboldened universalists.
