JUST IN: House Intel Cmte. Chairman Schiff says Amb. Sondland has messages on a personal device that he has given to US State Dept. but State Dept. is withholding messages from Congress; says blocking testimony and refusing to provide documents is seen as evidence of obstruction.
House Republicans say they were looking forward to Amb. Sondland's testimony today, before it was blocked by the State Dept.; say transcript of Volker testimony should be released, and call Chairman Schiff's handling of impeachment inquiry unfair and a "kangaroo court."

BREAKING: Turkish President Erdoğan says Turkish military operation against Kurdish and ISIS forces in northern Syria has begun; follows US president's announcement that the US would remove its forces from the area and not oppose a Turkish operation.
SDF spokesperson: "Turkish warplanes have started to carry out airstrikes on civilian areas. There is a huge panic among people of the region."
President Erdoğan labels Turkey's operation as "Operation Peace Spring" with aim to "neutralize terror threats against Turkey and lead to the establishment of a safe zone, facilitating the return of Syrian refugees to their homes."

House Intel has subpoenaed Michael Flynn + onetime Trump campaign deputy chair Rick Gates for records + congressional testimony. Intel Committee Chairman Schiff calls their failure to fully cooperate with Congress "simply unacceptable."

I went to House Intel Cmte Chairman Devin Nunes' district to report on the tightest race of his political life

His opponent Andrew Janz is within single digits in a district Nunes won by 35 pts last cycle. Janz raised $8 mil so far

One criticism of Nunes has been that he hasn't been responsive to local concerns, while accruing a national profile on natsec issues irrelevant to the farming/ag heavy district he represents in Calif's Central Valley.

So I went to check it out:

When NPR tried to visit his taxpayer-funded office in the most populated region of Nunes' district, it was closed and unstaffed at 2 p.m. on a weekday.

Phone calls go straight to voicemail. The only other office is more than 45 minutes away by car.
