Well, in case you didn't know, I got shat on by Shatner last night. My reaction to this will be simple. He's massively overreacted to a couple of low-level anti-STD tweets and his choice of language against me was... unfortunate and excessive.
However...
... I still love the guy and always will. And I'm not going to pester him for forgiveness at a convention because my conscience is clear. My admiration for his achievements in life are such that I will readily and happily forgive him for his outburst against me.
People who've work in or on Star Trek often don't fully comprehend the fan experience. I get that. It's work for them. For us, it's something more. A way of life? A moral code? Or just a rich and deeply engrossing fictional universe? Or maybe all these.
When we see people who've got no history with it or understanding of it pissing all over Trek and exploiting it to the nth degree, we don't like it. Some can't see that and just want new stuff, irrespective of whether it's any good. Some of us want respect for what came before.
I am wildly passionate about and eternally grateful for Star Trek and the impact it has had on my life. That might sound dramatic but I make no apologies for it. I will continue to fight for what I believe Star Trek should be and if a few people take offence then so be it.
Finally, I'd like to extend a very big THANK YOU to everyone who's tweeted me their support (or outrage!) over the last 24 hours. I've met some fantastic Trekkies on here over the last couple of years and I look forward to meeting you all in Stovokor one day! ❤
P.S. Apologies for doing a multi-tweet essay on all this. I used to say that only twats come on Twitter and post bloody essays like this. Guess that makes me a twat as well now (and Shatner right!). These are exceptional circumstances though. Working Class Klingon out. 😉🖖
