i thought last jedi was not a good star wars movie but the reaction of the incels to it is so pathetic.
i just dont understand the intense emotional feeling of betrayal for a movie/tv show/etc you dont like. maybe ive just read too many bad comics where i just shrug and say "eh, didnt like it, still love comics" to understand that mindset.
dc literally killed my absolutely favorite character in a naked cash grab with a stupid villain and still im like "eh." even at the time i said "this is silly but he's coming back so no big."

People always respond to negative things about Trump with “but his supporters believe it.” Yes, and? Do you really think it’s possible we’re going to get 100% agreement on things or it doesn’t count? The same 30-40% of the country that was miserable over a black potus lives Trump
I could maybe understand this refrain if Trump had high levels of support comparable to other presidents, but he hasn’t. At his highest moment of triumph he never has been anywhere near 50% support. No president in modern history has been so weakly supported so consistently.
When Bush won despite losing the popular vote he at least got over 50% approval after (before 9/11). Trump simply never has. Ever. Just accept about 40% of the country is lost. The chances of a LBJ or Reagan style consensus is nigh impossible in this world.

trump is all about some media spectacle/event designed to make conversation on another storyline he doesn't like "stop." which is one thing if you're trying to get the entertainment press to stop covering your affair. it doesn't really work in the presidency.
having a white house photo op with a chinese rep doesnt actually change the effect of ongoing tariffs and reporting on them. its a spectacle designed to stop the bleeding but there's real policy at play and you can't choreograph that.
bush often tried this with the war. i remember when the white house released their "strategy" for iraq which changed jack and shit about american soldiers being blown up every day.

the extent to which "this is good for republicans" is the undertone to so much political reporting is mind-boggling. rarely do mainstream reporters consider that something might not work out for the gop.
i dont think every story works out for the democrats, even when i personally support the course of action, but sometimes it does! and we have evidence it does when elections are won/lost and bills are passed. but the press thinks everything works out for the gop. all the time.
"Trump's removal from office and transportation to a maximum security prison has some asking if the Democrats have set themselves up for a catastrophic failure. It's possible that the removal of its leader is what the GOP wanted all along."

The first bit of good Star Wars movie news I've heard in a while is that they are taking a 3 year break after Episode IX and that the new trilogy is coming out in 2 year intervals instead of 1.
Star Wars benefits from longer hype building. DC is benefiting from out-of-continuity bespoke projects. Marvel is benefiting from their rate of releases and interconnected universe. Different franchises require different approaches. Trying to copy Marvel didn't work for them.

Unpopular opinion: This is my favourite of the Original Trilogy. Always has been.
[cn:sw] Several reasons why RETURN OF THE JEDI is my favourite, but they can be boiled down to two.

First: especially as a kid, I was all about the creatures, monsters, aliens. And boy does Episode VI deliver. :D
[cn:sw] First you have the Jabba's Palace sequence, which is ALL ABOUT the creatures. Humans are a distinct minority.

And it carries over to the Battle of Endor, in which they FINALLY bothered to have non-humans in the Rebel Alliance. Also Ewoks. Shut up, I love them :D

Star Wars is by far the most depressing big budget movie franchise. On a long enough time scale, evil always wins and everyone lives terrible lives before dying tragic deaths.
The Last Jedi gets refered to as the “dark” Star Wars, but it’s the world building in The Force Awakens that I find almost unbearably bleak.
The Rebellion failed so badly that The Empire 2.0 was able to return even stronger than before. Plus Han and Leia’s relationship was permanently destroyed after they raised an evil, murderous son who then goes on to kill Han. And people describe THAT as the “fun” Star Wars.
