Belleza: sabias que la varianza es la mitad del promedio de los cuadrado de todas las discrepancias posibles entre n observaciones?
Si viste clusters, tuviste que haber visto esto.
Quiz: si reemplazas cuadrados por valores absolutos, y dividis por la media, que da? Ayuda: empieza con g.....
Otra: fijate que esta formula desmiente que haya que pasar por la media para calcular la varianza.
Disclaimer: esta es la tipica "cosa" que aparece en mi curso de Stats/Machine Learning. En analisis de clusters es mas comodo pensar la varianza de esta forma.
PRUEBA: suma y resta la media de X, desarma el cuadrado. Mira bien: estas sumando 2n veces la varianza. El resto de los terminos se anula. Ahi tenes.
Y en R es hiper facil:

0.5*mean(outer(x, x, FUN = "-"))
