THE HATEFUL EIGHT was, in my opinion, pretty bad. ⭐️1/2
Just felt like a first draft from start to finish. Some astonishingly ill-conceived choices.
And—truly unpleasant.

I didn’t like it.
FWIW I like Tarantino’s movies a lot, usually. This is the first one I thought was just straight bad. (Haven’t seen OUATIH)

It’s weird but when something like this here happens, nobody talks about the impact on “swing voters.” Suddenly it’s almost like “swing voters” don’t exist.

My statement is: "The president can denounce it, or not, it doesn't matter. His entire presidency stands as a ringing endorsement of that video. It's too late for him to save himself. He can go to hell, and he will."
Honestly what would be more useless and disingenuous than Trump denouncing a video celebrating a church shooting, made to be enjoyed by his I guess you'd call them 'fans.'

These are the people who would have picnicked at a lynching. That video is exactly their jam.
What I'd like to see is a statement by all the outlets, whether depicted in that video or not, that the president is a clear white supremacist and an authoritarian, a corrupt liar and a bigot, and it's time to start reporting him for what he is and support for him for what it is.

In the end, the core matter isn’t a question of whether Trump is actively collaborating with foreign authoritarian governments, which he almost certainly is. The core issue is that he, and his party, and his supporters, are fundamentally aligned with authoritarianism.
Our core response has to be alignment with anti-authoritarianism—not just in the leaders we oppose, but in the leaders we support, in the way we live, the choices we make.

A 20 foot high wall is not opposition to a 50 foot high wall.
Do we live in an open world, or a closed one? A world of plenty, or of lack? Equity, or corruption? Of hope, or of fear? Of evidence, or lies? Inclusion, or dominance? Is power subject to accountability, or isn’t it?

They have their answers. We must have ours.

Joe Namath's rookie contract was the largest in professional football history. Not among rookies, among everyone.

His knees were so messed up that the military gave him deferred service. He used to have to get them drained during halftime so he could finish games.
Despite this, Namath made the pro bowl in his 1965, his first season, and was named Rookie of the Year. He was a first-team All Pro QB in 1967, 1968, and 1969, earning AFL MVP in the latter two seasons.

(Side note: in 1969 the AP named him 2nd-team All Pro *AND* league MVP.)
Shortly after, injuries began to mount. He missed 9 games in 1970 and 10 games in 1971 before playing 13 out of 14 games in 1972 and again being named first-team All Pro, this time of the post-merger league.

Missed 8 more games in 1973 before winning Comeback PotY in 1974.

First time doing anything of the sort:

1 like/RT = 1 potentially useful or totally irrelevant piece of car advice/opinion/musing. Feel free to ask questions.
A rant to start: with a few modern exceptions, modern car design is dogshit. This is driven by optimization of costs in manufacturing, optimization for maximum fuel economy to hit aggressive EPA targets, and ever-moving IIHS standards.
EPA targets are lower for cars classified as “light trucks” so you see a wholesale move towards these hateful “crossovers.” But underneath these are the usual front-wheel drive architecture shared with sedans and minivans, with an optional AWD system tacked on.

Today's #TenThings will be TEN THINGS ABOUT YOUR FIRST DRAFT. Because first drafts aren't always what they seem, but you can't know that until you've finished one. I would say it's like climbing your first mountain-- but I've never actually climbed a mountain.
The usual disclaimer: YMMV, my way is not the only way, every journey is different. This advice is aimed at new writers who haven't completed a first draft and who wish to be traditionally published. Whatever works for you is your process, but this is what worked for me.
1. A first draft is NOT a finished book. It may not look or read like a finished book. It may have gaps, inconsistencies, a rushed end, or an awkward beginning. THAT'S NORMAL. You don't have to show it to anyone. If writing advice says your 1st draft *should* be perfect, it lies.
