X : This person must be really smart, he built a $1bn company.
Me : Smarter than whom? Your typical system administrator?
X : Definitely.
Me : A former employee of mine, a system administrator built a $1bn company. I must remember he was daft until ... no wait. You're daft.
Me : I know a system admin, a cleaner, a gamer, a security guard and a university drop-out who built billion dollar companies. They weren't stupid before and suddenly smart after. That's just nonsense spread by those who have inherited and have justified insecurity complexes.
... I'm also aware that vastly more people that I'm friends with would be fabulously wealthy if we didn't have an entire system designed to keep hopeless idiots who have inherited in possession of their wealth along with claims of their brilliance at being born wealthy.
... and yes, you can pile on all the other aspects of privilege onto this. If you believe that you're living in some form of meritocracy then you are smoking something very special indeed. Telling me this person is smart because they've built a billion dollar company ... LMAO.
... I've met enough billionaires who are - what's the kind way of putting this - 'effing morons who only have their position because of the privilege they were born with.
X : 9 out of 10 US billionaires are self made.
Me : "Reported" for US self-made is about 68% of total but if you exclude "middle to upper class families with university educations" it drops to less than 3% despite those lower middle to working class making 84% of the population.
... the US isn't China, which is far more meritocratic. It's not Singapore with its highly focused education based on ability. If you want the American Dream then look East because it caught a boat out of the US, long ago.
