@nelsonlflores Sociolinguists have been pointing this out since the 1960s, and also the inherent language biases in many (most?) standardized tests. Yet the topic has to be brought up every decade. Lgs constantly change. Today’s norm will be obsolete tomorrow. As teachers, we need to be aware.
@nelsonlflores However, we also need to know that different language styles may have different “usefulnesses”. This language would not be very useful in a bar or for bonding with buddies.
@nelsonlflores We need to educate teachers by making them more sensitive to the strengths of different language varieties, and empower students by giving them more language tools to work with. Multiply rather than restrict.
