As associate producer for the show @SeeOfficial, I can tell you the entire cast and crew worked together to challenge misconceptions about #blindness and bring all viewers into our world. Here are some of the ways we did that:
The #blind / #Blindness community gave ongoing input on scripts & creative direction to depict blindness respectfully and authentic to world of SEE. Our cast includes blind and low-vision actors. We want to open doors to roles that historically have only gone to sighted peers
We asked all our actors, both sighted and #blind, what format they would like their scripts in for accessibility. Many said they’d never been offered a choice before and even sighted actors started using VoiceOver and Voice Dream Reader to learn their lines. @AppleTVPlus
The fight scenes were incredible to work on. We thought carefully about each battle and ways you fight as a person who is #blind. How would weapons be different, what would battles sound and look like, how would combat strategies change — everything.
To help block scenes accurately from the perspective of someone who’s blind, we did things like make sure there were physical marks — rocks, bumps on the ground. Different things work for different actors and it was a learning process. @JamesRath visit youtube.com/channel/UC2SRf…
wilderness survival when #blind is similar to learning orientation & mobility (travel training) You stop and control your breathing to get your body in sync with the world around you. Plant your feet and listen — become part of your surroundings. You listen to the environment.
I’m so proud to be working on a show like SEE that reflects the beautiful diversity of humanity. Thanks to Apple and @Tim_Cook for your commitment to accessibility and inclusion!
