An AMAZING tribute by @NFFC fans this weekend to their former players who fell during the wars. 👏

"They played freely on the pitch.
They fought for our freedom off the field.
So when you wear this shirt, remember what they did."
So why those colours, and not the traditional red of Nottingham Forest?

They are the official colours of the Sherwood Foresters, the Nottinghamshire regiment which included the inhabitants of Nottingham and Derby.

Fittingly @NFFC and @dcfcofficial played each other on the day.
The five players you see depicted are: Joe Mercer, Tom Peacock, George Hazard, Percy Ashton, William Fiske.
William Fiske: Signed for @NFFC in 1914 but before his debut, he is called to arms. Two years later, after being awarded brief honorary leave, he manages to record 5 appearances. He died in 1918 at the Third Battle of Aisne.
George Hazard: Enlisted while under the age of 18. He died in 1915 in Flanders, without having been able to realise his dream of debuting in the first team despite being one of the most promising talents.
Tom Peacock: Scored 57 goals in 109 appearances with @NFFC. Fights during the Second World War as an RAF pilot. He died after becoming Mayor of his hometown.
Percy Ashton: Signed for the @NFFC in 1930 but died during the war after having amassed 179 appearances for Forest.
Joe Mercer: Signed for @NFFC as a midfielder in 1910 but shortly thereafter joined the regiment in the Battalion of Footballers (at the time, many athletes took part in it). He survived the war but died in 1927 due to respiratory problems caused by the war.
Special credit to @BritishFootball for the insight. 🙌
And huge credit to @Forza_Garibaldi who were the masterminds behind the display. Unbelievable work. 👏🎨
