There’s something that troubles me about the likes of @AmyRemeikis (and occasionally @murpharoo and others) reacting to parliamentary politics as if it’s “batshit insane.” It isn’t, and it lets some genuine bad actors off the hook to pretend it is.
@AmyRemeikis @murpharoo I know it’s a kind of syntactic shorthand, but it’s still wrong. The people involved, and the politics they’re pushing, are completely sane and not at all batshit.
@AmyRemeikis @murpharoo The tumor in the heart of Australian politics isn’t that it’s insane, it’s that it’s fundamentally immature. It’s prosecuted by unserious people who are deeply childish, treating the whole thing like a game.
@AmyRemeikis @murpharoo Whether it’s Morrison carrying a lump of coal or Albo complaining interminably about the obvious consequences of things he voted for or Uhlmann crowing stupidly about an ABC political correctness survey, it’s all toddler-tantrum ridiculous bullshit.
@AmyRemeikis @murpharoo I think it’d be more productive to bell the cat and treat it as such, rather than ascribing it to insanity, which is something that can happen to anyone against their will, like a sickness.
@AmyRemeikis @murpharoo These people, processes, and arguments are completely willful, usually pushed by horrifically bad people who behave like sociopaths because they’re too immature to think about anyone but themselves and their ridiculous tribe.
@AmyRemeikis @murpharoo Approaching politics from that standpoint makes it more understandable, less random, less “insane.” And a lot less dignified. Doesn’t hide the vindictive nonsense behind the veneer of sickness you get when you treat it as insanity.
