I saw this from several accounts and had to pull up nytimes.com to make sure it wasn't fake. It's real. This is a question the New York Times has for us, and for itself.
It's a headline probem. nytimes.com/2019/11/29/us/… "with the tables turned and Republicans holding the White House, that almost certainly would not be their refrain in 2020... Senator Mitch McConnell has made clear that he would move ahead."
As predicted, the headline was changed.

Hasn't happened yet, but political journalism in the US will have to rethink it's relationship to the Republican Party, as conspiracy thinking, attacks on the press, and, to use an academic term, making shit up become not what the GOP does, but what it is. nytimes.com/2019/11/27/opi…
Increasingly, the GOP coalition is held together by practices that must collide with journalism if journalism is doing its job. The imaginary threats to its voters will have to intensify, the petty resentments will have a more and more fictitious basis, like the war on Christmas.
In other words, the Republican party is changing the way it is organized such that it cannot function without hot conflict between itself and the press over whether this or that made-up thing actually happened. Nothing in the playbook about what to do under conditions like these.

No one thinks this pairing the least bit strange— but I do. Teaming up for the next debate are what passes for public media in the US: the PBS @NewsHour, nominally supposed to address the public as a whole, and @politico, designed to appeal to insiders and the political class. 1/
The fact that journalists from the PBS @NewsHour can mesh smoothly with @politico doesn't even register as odd. Which is itself odd. Think about it: Why is the kind of journalism supported by foundations, viewer contributions and the Corporation for Public Brodcasting... 2/
... so similar to another style of journalism that from the beginning was meant to appeal to the political class? Politico was created for the "junkies," the portion of the audience that loves the game of politics. That should be the OPPOSITE of the PBS audience. But it isn't. 3/

When I started studying the American press as an institution (around 35 years ago) I did not assign much significance to a factor that would later feel huge and at times even decisive: the professional culture of the press. It's a beast. But now that beast is changing. THREAD. 1/
By newsroom culture I mean the beliefs, attitudes and styles that young journalists acquire as they learn to be pros. An occupational culture is absorbed by people more than it is taught to them. It is neither a conscious nor a fully unconscious possession, but semi-conscious. 2/
One place to find professional culture is in newsroom "types," characters found again and again in workplaces. The curmudgeon, for example. Ill-tempered, suspicious of all schemes for improvement, impatient with abstractions, profane, unwowable, a professional eye-roller. 3/

1/ The website is run by Patrick Mauldin—who, per the NEW YORK TIMES, "makes videos and other digital content for President’s Trump’s re-election campaign. Together with his brother Ryan, Mr. Mauldin also runs Vici Media Group." Yet the "Biden" website hid its creator's identity.
2/ There's been far too little discussion, thus far, of how the 2016 Trump campaign did the very same thing the 2020 campaign is: it used disinformation tactics on American voters—including some illegally coordinated by foreign nationals—and it amplified *Kremlin* disinformation.

These are sort of sentiments that are quoted warmly on the New York Times opinion page these days.
I try not to let them rile me, but this column with the big picture of a president on top of it is antithetical to the Gettysburg Address! It’s contrary to the whole idea of America.

And it’s in the holy goddamn New York Times.

What the New York Times and other MSM won't point out about the #NYTimes article, "Mr. McGahn cautioned to investigators that he never saw Mr. Trump go beyond his legal authorities, though the limits of executive power are murky."
All of this from the #NYTimes' article. Maggie Haberman writes with a slant for approval of her low informational readers. Don't be fooled by the pen.
Now the #FakeNewsMedia & cohorts are doing all it can to make Trump jaded over McGahn cooperating with Mueller. Now, mind you the president gave the ok for McGahn to speak with Mueller without any conditions. That said how the heck is McGahn going against Trump? #FAKENEWS folks.
