Brighton income up slightly as overseas broadcasting rights increase offsets £4m reduction from finishing 2 places lower than previous season. Income £143.4m compares to £1.6m when they had 1st season in top division in 1979/80 #BHAFC (other PL clubs 2017/18 unless says '2019')
Brighton matchday income flat as average attendance of 30,403 reflects capacity at Amex stadium. Only way to increase it is increase capacity (too costly) or more matches at home. #BHAFC
Broadcast income up 3% to £113m. More overseas income and FA Cup progress good but lower prize money and fewer matches shown on BT/Sky bad for finances compared to previous season. #BHAFC
Commercial income up 7% (although I suspect this may include loan income too) to £11.4m but still low by PL standards. New sponsor deal with Amex should add £6-7 million in 2019/20 #BHAFC
TV money contributes £79 out of every £100 for Brighton, compared to just over a quarter when they first moved to the Amex stadium in 2011. #BHAFC
Brighton wage bill up over 30% to over £100 million reflecting new contracts for Dunk, Duffy, Gross & others, as well as new signings coming in on PL level wages. Average wage about £47k a week. For every £1,000 in wages in 1st top flight season in 1979/80 now paying £128,000
Brighton transfer fee amortisation (transfer fee spread over contract period) up 70% in 2018/19 reflecting signings of Bissouma, Andone, Bernardo, Burn, Montoya, Tau, MacAllister, Jahanbaksh & a full year of Locadia and his banging tunes. Expect to rise again in 2019/20
Brighton Chief Exec Paul Barber's pay up to £1.49 million, which probably makes him the 27th highest paid person at the club. Total pay since coming to club £6.4 million, or about 2 pence per word per total emails sent. #BHAFC
Brighton average weekly wage £47,200 a week last season, compares to £3,300 when the club left Withdean & £352 a week in 1979/80 when originally were in top division. Wages have almost quadrupled in four years. #BHAFC wages now competitive by PL standards but still lower half
As a result of player costs being so high Brighton had a day to day trading loss of £24.6 million last season, although this will include sacking Chris Hughton & compensation to Swanseas for Graham Potter, figures not disclosed but prob £7-8 million in total.
Brighton therefore lost money in 9 years out of ten during the teenies totalling £159 million during the decade (£306,000 a week to you @AndyhHolt ) . Only six PL clubs making a profit from day to day activities.
To cover operating losses clubs need to either sell players at a profit or have owner cover the costs. Brighton made just over £5m profit from player sales in 2018/19 #BHAFC & I suspect few fans can name the player(s).
In terms of player recruitment Brighton spent nearly £80m in year to 30 June 2019. Overall net spend for the decade £146m. #BHAFC
Brighton's owner Tony Bloom lent the club a further £49 million interest free to take his total investment in the club to £362 million. #BHAFC . He has put in over £80 million since the club reached the Premier League.
