Oh my god - the data drop is incredible :O
Trying to process some now!!
The first 6 images from the rover panoramic camera. These are actually color - need to debayer them. Will reply down this thread. Data : moon.bao.ac.cn.
Oh - this is so pretty.
So- file names appear to have a site number at the end....and then in the middle an increasing number for the frames in a given mosaic. This is the newest 11 image from what I think is Site 97 with the Left Pancam
That means there's a Right Pancam. Which means... ANAGLYPHS (full size here - dougellison.smugmug.com/Change-4-Yutu-… )
The Pancam can shoot color, or mono..... it takes 28 frames to do a 360, and they appear to usually do two tiers for a 56 frame mosaic. This is the mono panorama at Site 95 taken Nov 23rd ( Full version here - dougellison.smugmug.com/Change-4-Yutu-… )
The lander pan in color from Site 2 dougellison.smugmug.com/Change-4-Yutu-…

Lander Pan after the rover deployed : dougellison.smugmug.com/Change-4-Yutu-…
As far as I can tell, the Lander's camera has done two 360s, One on Jan 6th and one on Jan 11th of last year, and that's about it. This is the second one. dougellison.smugmug.com/Change-4-Yutu-…
And of course - in polar projection - dougellison.smugmug.com/Change-4-Yutu-…
Here's the lander as seen from the rover at Site 7 - dougellison.smugmug.com/Change-4-Yutu-…
Initiating beast mode by playing Oasis - Shock of the Lightning...while debayering 56 images
Rover Site 11 - Color 360 including rover shadow and the bottom of the distant lander, and a lot of lens flare. dougellison.smugmug.com/Change-4-Yutu-…
12 frame color mosaic of a small (fresh-ish?) crater at Site 33 dougellison.smugmug.com/Change-4-Yutu-…
Lovely 6 frame postcard of the rover looking back at the lander from Site 48 dougellison.smugmug.com/Change-4-Yutu-…
I think this 6 frame postcard from 2019-07-29 at Site 50 is the rock that got headlines being described as a lost in translation 'gel' like feature. dougellison.smugmug.com/Change-4-Yutu-…
OK - I've got to call it a night...but moon.bao.ac.cn <<< SO MUCH AWESOME MOON GOODNESS. Get in there people. I used ImageJ to process a lot of it (free) Thanks to the Chinese Academy of Sciences for releasing so much data, and in a PDS format as well.
So where was I....yes....the 6 frame postcard from 2019-07-29 at Site 50 turned into a 3D model. sketchfab.com/3d-models/chan…
6 frame mosaic from Site 67 - back at the same crater - you can see the tracks approaching and backing away from it twice before - dougellison.smugmug.com/Change-4-Yutu-…
Full color 360 from Site 76 - still near the glittering crater - Pan ( dougellison.smugmug.com/Change-4-Yutu-… ) and Polar Projection ( dougellison.smugmug.com/Change-4-Yutu-… )
OK - so here is how I've been processing them. Install ImageJ ( imagej.nih.gov/ij/download.ht… ) and add the debayer plugin from here ( physics.umanitoba.ca/astro/?page_id… - the contents of the zip should go in your imagej folder under plugins/color )
Let's take a single Rover PanCam L Color image - CE4_GRAS_PCAML-C-001_SCI_N_20190208204706_20190208204706_0007_B.2B - if you download it's label ( CE4_GRAS_PCAML-C-001_SCI_N_20190208204706_20190208204706_0007_B.2BL ) you will see the details of the .2B images
Those translate into these parameters for ImageJ under File-Import-Raw
That gets you THIS : so now to debayer it....
So - Plugins-Color-Debayer Image and these settings...specifically the first must be R-G-R-G If you have Display Color Image checked you can skip a step. If you don't - you have to go Image-Color-Stack to RGB after debayering.
That gets you THIS. Now what you do from here is up to you ( also - it's worth experimenting with the demosaicing algorithm - different methods behave better with different types of content. Now you can File-Save As-Whatever you want....and away you go.
From there - I've been putting them in PTGui ( it's the panorama stitching software I've been using for a decade+...it's a commercial product, but other free options are available like Microsoft ICE or HUGIN )
Exporting from PTGui I get this : it can be tidied up a bit...... exposure/gamma can always use a tweak, maybe a slight reduction in the green channel to about 97% or so.
I often export a layered PSD from PTGui and have Photoshop Auto-blend the layers. That can give better results that PTGui I sometimes find. Then tweak at will ( You could do this in GIMP which is also free ). In this case - I then extended the sky to make a nice 16:9 image
For the greyscale images (let's use CE4_GRAS_PCAML-Q-000_SCI_N_20190312075414_20190312075414_0022_B.2B as an example ) - check the label again....
For importing into ImageJ - use these settings.....
No need to debayer....you're already there.
What you can alternatively do with the greyscale images is rename them to .raw - and then open them directly in Photoshop using these settings.
That will get you THIS.... AMAZING.....
The data is all in the bottom 8 of the 16 bits. But a levels stretch or, in the case, an exposure adjustment can get you this And then mosaic in your package of choice. That's it. Thanks for listening to my TED talk.
