Hey #TeamPete, wanted to speak to you personally on this morning's pieces on race as it relates to this campaign. Hope you'll take the time to hear from me. Thread.
1| I say it often because it's true: I'll go to the mat for this team every time. Full stop. Getting to be in the trenches with this particular crop of extraordinary human beings on the daily is most likely the coolest thing I'll ever do and I'm so good with that.
2| Part of those trenches includes being introspective when faced with stories like these. However, Pete for America has a lot to be proud of, both internally and externally. Read more here: medium.com/the-moment-by-…
3| We're all here because we love and believe in Pete. Making sure this campaign reflects the diversity of the country we're trying to get him elected to run is just one of the many ways we exercise our message.
4| But no good movement is about simply ensuring boxes are checked. We've come together multiple times to have deliberate and intentional conversations, and the campaign created safe spaces (bridge groups) for people to speak freely about their concerns in a trusted space.
5| As intended, I've come to lean on the Black bridge group quite a bit. It's a space for us to lift each other up in a campaign-supported environment where everyone can rely on our individual relationships with the Black experience to guide others, educate, and air frustrations.
6| One of those frustrations? Being proud to wear your curated identity as a Black person on your sleeve AND having to grapple with an electoral climate that treats us like a monolith and is hostile when our political advocacy is perceived to be divergent.
7| As we move forward, we are going to continue to run a different campaign. We will continue to approach fostering inclusion with the ongoing deliberation it deserves, and we will continue to live by our Rules of the Road of Belonging, Respect, Responsibility, and Truth. [end]
