Before Rand Paul’s efforts to ask a question, which sources say names the alleged whistleblower, McConnell says the Senate has been “respectful of the chief justice’s unique position in reading our questions.
McConnell, looking at Roberts, said: “And I want to be able to continue to assure him that level of consideration for him will continue.”
At press conference, Paul says: “I can tell you my question made no reference to any whistleblower.” Then Paul reads aloud his question which names a Schiff’s staff member and names the individual who has been reported as possible whistleblower - and asks about their contacts
“Look I’m the biggest defender of whistleblower statutes,” Paul says, saying he wasn’t given a rationale for Roberts’ rejection
