"The presiding officer declines to read the question as submitted" — Chief Justice John Roberts, to Rand Paul question with alleged whistleblower's name
Quite something that the "libertarian" is spending his time trying to out the whistleblower rather than responding to some remarkable arguments for unrestrained presidential power from Trump's team
McConnell opened proceedings today with something of a preemptive semi-apology for the Rand question we now know was coming up next.

"We've been respectful of the chief justice's unique position in reading our questions," wanted to assure him that consideration would continue
Good question from Sen. Reed and others for both sides:
"Can you explain who has paid for Rudy Giuliani's legal fees, international travel, and other expenses in his capacity as President Trump's attorney and representative?"
Sekulow brazenly avoids answering the question about who pays Rudy and angrily rants about the Bidens instead. Also attacks several senators by name — Leahy, Menendez, and Durbin — for their 2018 letter to Ukraine's prosecutor general durbin.senate.gov/newsroom/press…
Collins question to both sides: “Are there legitimate circumstances under which a president can request a foreign country to investigate a US citizen, including a political rival, who is not under investigation by the US government?”
Philbin says flat-out yes.

"If there was conduct by a US person overseas that potentially violated the law of that country but didn’t violate the law of this country — but if there was a national interest in having some information about that," it could be legitimate
Pay no attention to attention to that mysteriously-funded lawyer behind the curtain!

Or to Rudy's letter to Zelensky saying he was acting "in my capacity as personal counsel to President Trump and with his knowledge and consent"!
