One could take that McConnell remark as a subtle acknowledgment of the Rand Paul - whistleblower question situation.

Paul said nothing in protest on the floor after the Chief Justice blocked his question, but we've just been told Paul is coming upstairs to speak to reporters here in the Capitol in a few minutes
Sen Paul reads reporters his question. It names the whistleblower and a staffer on the House Intelligence Committee, accusing them of plotting together to impeach the President.

Schiff has run over his time of late, and the Chief Justice has had to cut him off. The last two times, it seemed like there was a little bit of impatience in the Chief Justice's voice. Something to watch.
