Looking forward to what should be an interesting and timely speech from @EnvAgency's Sir James Bevan on the current and present challenges faced by UK due to #ClimateChange & how to build future resilience #IfGClimate
Opening his speech @JamesBevanEA stresses that he believes that "climate change is real" and "is the biggest threat we face". However, he acknowledges that it is often described in "overly-technical language" which can make it inaccessible to the general public #IfGClimate
Bevan cites #COP27 stats showing climate-related disasters have doubled in the last 20 years globally. Notes that 🇬🇧 has seen 4,000 heat related deaths since 2018, drought threatens our water supply this year & next, & 1-in-💯 year flood events now occur annually #IfGClimate

#OfficeForTheWhistleblower
"It is important that people have a reliable route that they can take when they want to expose wrongdoing. An office for the whistleblower might be a potential route."

Legislation is needed to clarify that whistleblowing should be viewed positively, like compliance, rather than negatively, like a form of corporate treachery that eventually unravels in costly, exhausting & embarrassing legal battles
-Georgina Halford-Hall
Whistleblowers need one place to go to find out where they stand, get support and advice, source the financial means to fight retaliation and get appropriate compensation for their damaged careers—for most #whistleblowers, whistleblowing is career ending

🧵👇 Abusing its power over security clearances is the most effective and least accountable way that the Executive Branch retaliates against #whistleblowers. Congress and the Courts need more effectively check that abuse of power. It’s a grave threat to truth and accountability.
Here is what @MikeZummer blew the whistle on and how.

As you can see, it was serious and important, but it had nothing to do with national security.

And nothing Zummer did reflected poorly on his integrity or trustworthiness—quite the opposite. ImageImage
But look how the @FBI treated @MikeZummer.

Yank his clearance & pay.

Deny him permission to work elsewhere.

Brand him "untrustworthy" for releasing "sensitive government ... information."

All because he told a sentencing judge about a sexual predator's abuse of power. ImageImage

On #WorldMentalHealthDay I repeat my call for @UKParliament give whistleblowers protection & for #JUSTICE4LULINSPECTOR.

The legislation proposed is not fit for purpose & we need these issues addressed ASAP before any other whistleblowers commit suicide due to lack of support.
This is what team @BorisJohnson did to me.
Using FTAC to falsely incarcerate me on fabricated evidence by @mragilligan as an independent tribunal held by @NHSEngland ruled.
I was driven to near suicide - lest we forget Dr David Kelly.

1/Very worthwhile & interesting discussion of "Curious Fate of Citizen Snowden’s Archive" by long-time friend & oft media client @jeffersonmorley. Addresses issues many of us discuss all the time: where are Snowden's files & what should be done w/them?

spytalk.co/p/the-curious-…
2/In decade since Snowden's criminal acts (whether you agree w/his actions or not, no escaping they were criminal) to disclose NSA/Govt secrets, especially abt domestic surveillance program, it has been said only abt 10% of contents have been publicly revealed.
3/Put aside revealing NSA's domestic surveillance program, which I believe Snowden could have done w/release of single page court order w/same effect yet had he done that he likely could be in US & not facing indictment. There were numerous lawful paths he could have taken. #Sad.

The potential #criminal or perpetrator of protruding any suspicious action or decision based on heinous or harmful activity can be deterred by forcing them to weigh the consequences of mens rea & actus reus against the weight of punishments based on odds.
#bankers #roguetraders
Bad bankers are akin to criminals in any other walk of life.
We must broaden the domains of criminology and sociology, including psychology, to understand rogue and kleptomaniac behaviour among money managers in both the public and private sectors.
#Fincrime is ubiquitous
The most potent cocktail of crime is when Financial crimes aka #Fincrimes and Social Engineering taxonomy comes together, such as #Cybercrimes, to threaten legacy Management Information, Technology, Computer Engineering, Networking, and Private Data Systems Securities.

1/Now this is interesting.

First, I regularly represent #whistleblowers regardless of political ideology, incl at @FBI. Not one #FBI #WBer has approached us or @wbaidlaw, a non-profit I co-founded to provide pro bono legal assistance. And that's fine, we don't own "market".
2/I've never heard of #KurtSiuzdak & that means nothing. He practices in CT. He may be best attny in CT in fact. His firm's practice areas are interestingly ... diverse.

* Family Matters & Divorce Law
* Cybersecurity and Data Privacy
* FBI Whistleblower litigation
3/What I don't understand & feel compelled to raise is this statement on his website:

"there only a few lawyers with experience in the Department of Justice's whisteblower court."

What @TheJusticeDept "whistleblower court"?

1/Thread abt Grenell v. Troye defamation lawsuit:

We are publicly announcing that @MarkSZaidPC & #TomCraig (@TMCv63, @fhhfirm) are representing @OliviaTroye to defend against former Ambassador (& acting DNI for 3 months) #RichardGrenell’s defamation lawsuit.
2/We will not repeat lawsuit allegations, which arose from Twitter activity, but assuredly they are baseless.
3/His lawsuit was filed on August 8, 2022, in Circuit Court for City of Alexandria. Although filed almost one month ago, Troye has not been served to commence proceedings. For one thing, the address cited in lawsuit is incorrect.

Who is the other official #whistleblowers identified, along with Thibault, as being "deeply involved" in launching DOJ's "false-electors scheme" criminal probe?

Richard Pilger, Director of the Election Crimes Branch, who has a history with Lois Lerner & IRS targeting.

THREAD 1:
2. Here are key pages from the 2014 Congressional report, at republicans-oversight.house.gov/wp-content/upl…

Pilger contacted Lerner in 2013 asking to coordinate with the IRS on an idea from @SenWhitehouse for DOJ to "piece together false statement" cases against certain nonprofits. ImageImage
3. You remember Lois Lerner.

She's the IRS official held in contempt of Congress.

And yet, @TheJusticeDept refused to even present the contempt citation to a Grand Jury, as required by statute.

Some key context missing from this WaPo article by @PostRoz, @DevlinBarrett, @CarolLeonnig, @jdawsey1 & @hsu_spencer.

THREAD: 1. On May 31, @ChuckGrassley wrote to @FBI about WFO Assistant SAC Timothy Thibault's political bias.
2. Shades of Peter Strzok.

Here are some examples and background, as described in the letter.

See highlights where Thibault even attacks @RepLizCheney ("Your dad was a disgrace"):

3. Then, on Monday, Grassley revealed that several #whistlelowers had come forward to detail how systemic political bias infects the @FBI and @TheJusticeDept through gatekeepers like Thibault and others who decide what gets investigated and what doesn't.

1/I recently came across comments by #ChadWolf, former Acting DHS Secretary, to @axios in response to the @DHSOIG report that pertained to our client #BrianMurphy.

Let me clarify facts & respond directly given Wolf blatantly distorts the truth.

cc: @wbaidlaw
2/Wolf said:

"And finally, buried in the report is the fact that the grossly false whistleblower complaint against me was withdrawn"

It is true we withdrew Murphy's retaliation complaint as part of broad favorable settlement w/DHS. Given Murphy's career steps, this made sense.
3/Importantly, it did NOTHING to preclude DHS OIG from continuing its investigation, which it did & issued adverse findings against Wolf.

Total vindication for Murphy, one of the highest ranking #whistleblowers in US history.

A #Thread - CAUTION, this one gets graphic.

There's lots of good cops, but want to know why the corrupt one get away with their shit as much as they do.

Simple...

Corruption/ self-preservation on the part of senior management teams & planned defamation on the integrity of
#whistleblowers.

In 1989 Bevin Perrin, a school teacher, was abducted and brutally murder in #HamOnt, #Canada.

A $30,000 reward was offered and paid. The suspects went to jail, until their conviction was overturn, due to misleading evidence, but that's a whole other story.
Fastforward to 2009. I'm handed paperwork which shows that $30,000 reward money wasn't given to the tipster, but the homicide Detectives kept it themselves.

Background revealed the majority of Det's were also stealing from the informant handling system and #Crimestoppers.

I've been quieter on Twitter than usual, but POGO's policy team has been toiling away to advance reforms through Congress to protect #whistleblowers and empower inspectors general. Those reforms are desperately needed to prevent waste and fraud:

Next week, the @HSGAC will hold a hearing to consider three bills that would empower nonpartisan inspectors general to aggressively carry out their anti fraud and waste mission, without fear that it will lead to their firing. hsgac.senate.gov/hearings/09/29…
The House considered, and passed in a bipartisan vote, one of those three bills three months ago. I was honored to testify in support of that legislation - the IG Independence and Empowerment Act. pogo.org/testimony/2021…

Today is #NationalWhistleblowerDay. Please support #nationalsecurity #whistleblowers who have made some of the most important disclosures in the history of the United States, and have suffered tremendous consequences.
By definition whistleblowers reveal information in the public interest. They expose government misconduct, such as information about unconstitutional mass surveillance, torture, the secret drone war, foreign election interference, discrimination, civil and human rights abuses.

Τι λένε άνθρωποι ― κλειδιά & αποκαλυπτικά έγγραφα που πηγαίνουν 10+ χρόνια πίσω;

reportersunited.gr/6016/oi-desmot…

In September 2020, @hootsuite came under widespread criticism over its agreement with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, made mere weeks after allegations of forced hysterectomies at @ICEgov detention centres surfaced
Following public pressure, the company backed out of the deal, and posted a lengthy statement from CEO @TomKeiser to their official @Twitter account that expressed regret over the internal divisions that the contract had created within the company. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hootsuite
Despite this public distancing from its earlier decision, over the next several weeks the company terminated numerous employees who had acted as #whistleblowers in bringing the contract's existence to light, sparking further public outrage and condemnation.

(1) Thread #6: #SurfsideBuildingCollapse

I called it early on. This event has a ripple effect across the US for emergency management, public safety policy, and infrastructure. The "built environment."

My Surfside thread directory:
(2) I'm not "tooting my own horn." I'm doing what anyone else would do when they have information that others might not have, that could save one life, let alone hundreds of lives.

This building collapse is not new or unusual to folk outside the US who witnessed similar events.
(3) It's true that most people would believe "buildings don't just fall down in America," and in most cases, they are right. There are stringent standards and liability laws in the US.

But statistically, someone always lets the side down. It's human nature.
