People seem to be interpreting the DNC rules change as bowing to pressure from Bloomberg, but I think it's the other way around.
Right now Bloomberg is spending hundreds of millions of dollars on ads and never has to answer tough questions and face other candidates on a debate stage. Klobuchar explicitly called this out as unfair. And she's got a point!
And I don't think putting a former Republican billionaire on stage is going to be BAD for Sanders or Warren or any of the other candidates for that matter.

All disasters are, almost by definition, the result of a bunch of things going wrong at once. Seems like last night was a combination of the app, as well as a caucus with lots of candidates, many of whom weren't at viability, AND ALSO new, fairly complicated rules for reporting.
Dawned on me last night as we headed towards 10pm that the caucuses *themselves* were taking far far longer than usual. That's before you even get to the reporting issues. I was at a preinct in Des Moines in 2016 and they were done in about 40 minutes, total.
Iowa kind of ended up in a worst of both worlds: instead of a simple primary or a simple caucus, where people just showed up and gave a tally (which is basically how the GOP does it), they kept all the complications and then, to make it extra transparent ADDED A BUNCH OF NEW ONES

The idea that the president's intent is immaterial is so nuts and dangerous. Consider the following hypothetical that someone once offered on my show (I can't remember who).
A municipality passes a new ordinance that requires every homeowner to put their garbage out on Friday night after 7pm for pick up early the next morning. Failure to do this will result in citations and stiff fines.
Obviously this is a perfectly legitimate policy, if maybe a bit onerous. But now imagine that the municipality has recently seen a large influx of Orthodox Jews, and the intent of policy is to penalize observant Jews and push them out of the town.

One point I've been thinking about today in light of electability arguments is about the front-line members in the House. A bunch have endorsed Biden and are campaigning for him. And I think it's fair to say a majority of those folks would like to see Biden win.
I've had conversations with members in those seats who haven't publicly endorsed who've said as much. But I also think it's important to keep in mind that the questions of "who at the top of the ticket does best in the 40 front-line seats" and who does best in the EC are distinct

In this “new metric,” Biden is perhaps benefiting from 8 years as Obama’s VP - but it also means that he can get the most bump in polls by spending the least (given present rate). So if DNC is interested in saving $$, the could make this metric another threshold.
2. If this ever became DNC’s new threshold metric, and they capped off the debate participants to the Top 5, based on this metric, Gabbard and Klobuchar would make the cut (along with Biden, Warren and Sanders), but Buttigieg would not.
3. Half of the money Democratic candidates raised will likely go toward beating each other. Trump (who raised 50% less $$ than Clinton in 2016) enters 2020 with a huge war chest. So the Democratic nominee needs to not only be a fundraising beast, but also an efficient spender.

But it persists with the people behind the scenes, building a wall more effective than any physical one, clothing racism not in a white Klan robe but in a black judicial one.

I'm calling for a hearing.
To people like me who punish themselves by reading the writings of racists and white nationalists, it's a very familiar refrain.

Why else would cult classics like #CampoftheSaints still enjoy popularity?
It lays out the racial fear raw and unvarnished. Great to rally people to your cause, and maybe get them to light Tiki torches or shoot up a Wal-Mart on the border.

But it doesn't make true exclusionary policy.

2/ Before we dig into the specifics, let’s review some important context. Energy utilities across the USA are getting worried because their electric sales are flattening or decreasing (thanks in large part to energy efficiency standards & programs the utilities have fought).
3/ Without increasing demand, the utilities can’t justify building large new power plants. And that is a problem for a monopoly utility, since its profit is based on earning a return on capital investments like big new power plants.
