Only thing funnier than Noah Smith failing as an economist after failing as a physicist is how bad he still is as a political pundit. Sometimes you see the older gen of Chait-like writers and wonder how they ever got their platform. Nothing succeeds like failure. 
Of all the diverse, experienced, talented writers Bloomberg could have given that job too, instead it went to a guy who spent his career writing bad math models and applying them poorly to real world problems, who convinced himself his worldview is somehow unique or interesting.

If he had been told to keep to his lane and focus his commentary on the popularization of mainstream econ, I'd have some sympathy for the thought process behind hiring him. But nope, the dude is apparently now apparently a historian, political strategist, cultural commentator.
Imagine achieving as little as he has achieved with his life and thinking you've got something to teach others about how the world should work. Just incredible.
I mean look at this CV. Look at the breadth, the depth, the variety of experience and achievement. Doesn't it just scream "I need to know this man's opinion on how to solve racism"
Remember when Sunrise Movement first kicked off and Noah was all over the media giving interviews about how he thought the GND was bad? Thank God someone asked his opinion I was really worried white male orthodox economists views were gonna be underrepresented in the discourse
Im real happy for post-2016 Nate Bronze for becoming the exact shoot-from-the-gut pundit he'd spent years pilloring & imma let him finish, but Noahs pivot from whining about the need for empirical social science to spouting bullshit as insight was one of the greatest of all time!
Its regrettable that a bright promising blogger who came to prominence w deeply thoughtful gems like "a troll bestiary of the econoblogosphere" turned out to be so underwhelming, but when you give 100 identical biege assholes a massive platform you're always gonna get some duds
