A note to anyone calling for MSNBC to #FireChrisMathews:

his argument had nothing to do with who invaded France.

It was a historical reference to disbelief, in the face of evidence, that "le jeux sont fait."

Y'all should be thrilled -watch it yourself.
And TBH, I wish that Matthews would leave his slot for other reasons... somebody needs to do a show for the History channel putting this election in its historical context.

But ☝🏻he does not effectively communicate with the under 45 set, and his daily show no longer works.
So, there's no culpability here on Matthews' part... but there is a need to reconsider moving him (and, more importantly, Andrea Mitchell) into roles where they aren't ostracizing younger viewers on a daily basis.
Experience has value.

But so does a first-hand understanding of the challenges facing the late-X/millennial set.

And what we need more than ever is reporting that explains that experience to the AARP set.
While they're out enjoying their retirement, we need to let them know that our student loans start us off with debt that keeps us from buying our own homes, perpetuating the cycle of renting, not building equity unless we're fortunate enough to have two incomes in the home...
We need to let them know that this is due to a pattern of corruption and ongoing corporate piracy that was enabled by their permissiveness and lack of attention to civic society in the late '70s and '80s; a willingness to tolerate Wall Street greed without demanding justice.
And we need to let them know that, while they were raising us, toting us from school to piano lessons to soccer games, but disengaging from an increasingly divisive domestic politics because it was just too.... not nice -
They were enabling the system that has left an entire generation where teachers have to take on second jobs to pay the rent; an economy where employees are passé in favor of contractors and gig workers without health care...
and when contractors ask too many questions, or push back if asked to do something illegal and/or immoral that can negatively impact public safety and/or national security - their contracts are simply not renewed.

( And that's why self-regulation in tech doesn't work. )
This is the system their generation has allowed to be built in their names.

And anchors like Mitchell and Matthews have been watching perched atop their comfortable positions in society with Louboutins + 30yo single malts, one unquestioningly parroting
the frames pitched by corporate and party shills, the other oblivious to the other meanings signified by their words to a generation who realistically has more in common with post-Depression, pre-War mid-1930s America than with the prosperity of post-war-born generations.
IMO, this is the reason why my grandfather, a ~95yo WWII vet who grew up as a truck farmer will turn on Maddow, but doesn't watch the anchors closer to his own age: from their position of privilege, they don't speak to him in the same way they don't speak to people like me.
And, to be clear, this ain't ageist: there are some who get it, and are willing to address the reality without cowtowing to their own cognitive weaknesses - @Lawrence gets it, without sacrifice reality to access in the way other anchors of that generation seem to have acquiesced.
But if we want the real news we need to make informed decisions, we have to address cognitive bias in all generations of reporters, and admit that it tends to increase with age and experience.

And that's just what bad actors are relying on.
So, it's up to networks like @MSNBC to evaluate not JUST ratings or an anchors' status and accomplishments, but how their cognitive bias might be impacting an their focus, presentation, and ability to accurately communicate *without using staged frames*, across ALL audiences.
And no. I'm not a Bernie supporter - he simply has too much baggage to think he'll make it through the general election.

But, for some reason, the anchors who know about that baggage are playing by the old rules and hinting at it, but not coming out and explicitly exposing it.
Because in the old days, it must have been enough for that to work to dissuade folks from casting their ballots... back when people didn't want to know the dirt.

But Reality TV has put the dirt in our faces, so if we don't see it ourselves, it's not real.
Wake up, news networks.

It's time to hire people who address things that are not nice, instead of rambling about emails + using metaphors that don't hit their mark.

That's the only way to stop things that are 'not nice' from being actual reality for millions of real people.
