Ashraf ramah, bicara seperlunya, pintar. Menghormati semua.

Ashraf mau menulis autobiografi buat ultah ke 40. Senang saya. Dari awal di hormati saya & jasa saya. Bayar penuh di awal karena maklumi susah cari nafkah sebagai freelancer. Pernah susah juga dia. Dia mau saya dibayar dapat sebelum Natal biar perayaan meriah. #BegitulahAshraf

Kerjasama Ashraf gampang. Setiap pagi dia kasih tahu jadwal syuting, lalu harus ada waktu sama Noah. Dia sayang banget sama Noah & BCL.
Tapi Ashraf yang tanya sama saya jam berapa saya bisa interview. Jam berapa convenient buat saya. Bukan untuk dia.

Jadinya. Setiap hari bisa sampai 2 jam interview lewat voicecall WA, Ashraf di Jakarta, setelah Noah tidur, saya di rumah kecil di UK. Dia cerita tentang masa kecil di kota kecil UK, guru SD yang sangat amat baik dan bagaimana mulai akting di sekolah. Lucu.

We talked and talked and talked. Pindah dari UK ke KL, dan merasa seperti orang asing di sekolah karena belum bisa bahasa Malaysia. Sampai dipermalukan oleh guru. Bagaimana keluarga, pendapat tentang cinta, jadi model & aktor. Semuanya. Seru & saya belajar banyak

Ashraf bicara tentang sinetron; banyak suka merendahkan tapi dia tidak. Bisa memperbaiki akting & menghasilkan uang untuk bisnis & kegiatan lain. Tapi Ashraf orang pintar lihat realitas. Kita bicara tentang "fake people", yang pura2 & ingin berkuasa. Tertawalah

Kami kerja cepat. 14 bab & 22,000 kata. Lalu Ashraf ke LA, kembali beberapa minggu kemudian tapi sibuk kegiatan & jetlag. Saya mulai cemas tidak jadi, dan akhirnya saya pullout (sampai sekarang saya tidak mengerti ada apa dalam pikiran saya). Ashraf tetap baik.

Saya sempat minta maaf; Ashraf mengatakan tidak apa2, kekecewaan sudah lewat (kebetulan lagu BCL "Kecewa" adalah lagu favorit saya dari dulu!). Kehormatan buat saya adalah saat Ashraf baca tulisan lain saya & menulis WA: "You're such a great writer". Meant a lot

I still cared for Ashraf. Oh yes, I'm judgemental & bitchy (as well as compassionate & kind). No time for those who are fake, two-faced & none too talented but pretend to be - nah. Never. I'm proud that I stick to my guns (tetap pada prinsip). Like Ashraf

I was shocked when I saw his name trending on Twitter. Cried when I read it. Felt dismal & sad, knowing how much potential he had, and how much he loved his family. And he loved people & was good to them. He was a perfectionist, although he had tried to relax.

His passing made me realize how much somebody can give, and be such a spark of light and goodness, and then be gone. Ashraf showed me, at age 52, him 40, that we must live every day, like he said, with a purpose. Because every moment matters. Every single one.

So Ashraf is gone, but he's not gone. He affected so many people. When people pass, so often obituaries are filled with regrets. And hollow words for people who, deep down, we know were fakes.
But not so Ashraf. He truly made a difference to people.

He made a difference - unexpectedly- in my life. He gave tmuch more than what he paid to me in money. He gave to me in his spirit, words & thoughts. He was a force for good, truly. Not a perfect person, he would say himself, but someone who strived to be so.

His passing made me realize that physical life ceases - snuffed out like a fire - but the spirit of the person burns on. In the lives people who he touched, who he made a difference to. People of importance come at different times in our lives; he was one for me.

Of course, I am sad he is gone, & for the loved ones - who he loved so much - who are left behind. One of his last messages to me ended with "sending you love & light". That was what he did, all the time. And he's still doing that in how I remember him.
