The initial research focuses on middle-aged whites. But the problem is much broader than that.

The happiness gap between white Americans with a college degree and those without a degree is growing.
For anyone who's skeptical about the value of education, remember that the core dividing line in all these trends is the four-year college degree.

And the evidence suggests a degree isn't only a marker. Education has a causal role.
