A small group of #UMC traditionalists wearing rose colored glasses has been pushing the idea that the Protocols will result in a vibrant, renewed traditional church encompassing ~20% of existing US UMC church. Unlikely.

Michigan Annual Conference results today, where 91% sought to advance the Protocols to #GC2020 suggest this idea of a vibrant remnant is foolishness. The liberals know this & are allowing these Traditionalists to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

Even the African churches are looking at the Protocols as an exit ramp from the progressive twisting of Scripture. They once stood with US #UMC traditionalists for a Scriptural view of human sexuality, but when US traditionalists capitulated, they gave up too. Sad! 3/3

Some thoughts on our collective reaction to #COVIDー19/#CoronaVirus:

Those who think the health effects have been overblown are likely right. It’s NOT likely as deadly as some have predicted & it’s NOT going to be as widespread in the US as it has been in other countries 1/
But here’s the rub: we’re still *under reacting*. We need to continue closing down large events, suspending schools, working from home — we should be seeking & embracing a month of *social isolation* not just *social distancing* Why?

The issue w/ #CoronaVirus is how fast it spreads. It is going to overwhelm our institutions. Period.

The cascade of chaos will cause far more suffering than the virus. We need to throttle this thing. We can’t snuff it out entirely, but minimizing the impact is priority

To those responding to the Top teacher moments video with toxic positivity as a way to counteract those of us who spoke out against it...this is for you.
First, you interpreting our posts talking about teaching moments not being for mass consumption as negative is on you. We are simply saying “hey, this is cute but let’s consider these moments through another lens”
For instance, the young man whose principal lets him try on his corrective glasses for colorblindness. The child sobs. Does the child want that moment viral? Do his caregivers? What are the implications that may cause? Sure it centers the principals kindness but at what cost?

After Trump won, a bunch of friends and I spent a Saturday afternoon brainstorming ways that things could go wrong in 2017. It was deeply sobering. Throughout this year, I’ve tried to keep my expectations tied to the list we made.
Many of the worst things might easily still happen. You're wearing rose-colored glasses if you don't expect a disastrous war and a self-inflicted economic meltdown before Trump leaves office.
