Discussions of context relating to #ChatGPT and #assessment in #HigherEducation are a bit thin on the ground: the structural condition of universities are a big part of why many commentators see it as a 'threat'. A short thread with readings👇 1/9
high student numbers, precarity and crushing workloads mean there is rarely time for academics to gain the familiarity with students’ writing approaches needed to support good practice, or to innovate with form: @UCU workload survey 2021 (pdf) ucu.org.uk/media/12905/Wo… 2/9
across the UK sector, the volume of summative assessments being set has risen steadily over recent years: @HEPI_news Student Experience Survey 2022 (pdf) hepi.ac.uk/wp-content/upl… 3/9

Academics "riding their fear carousel"(@Anda19) can't think about innovative ways to use #ChatGTP. So I asked ChatGTP: "If AI is part of future professional workflows how can academics get students to use it ethically as part of an assessment" Their reply: #highered #assessment
1.Incorporate discussions on AI ethics into the curriculum: By including discussions on the ethical implications of AI in class, students will be better equipped to make informed decisions when using AI in their assessments.
2.Provide clear guidelines for the use of AI in assessments: By providing students with clear guidelines on what is and is not acceptable when using AI in their assessments, students will have a better understanding of what is expected of them.

Several people asked me why I was bothering to get an autism assessment when I was almost 59.
My children were adults, my career was on the wane, I had already lived a lot of my life.
What difference would it make for me to discover that I was #ActuallyAutistic then?
1/
I knew I was autistic long before the psychologist told me.
I’d met other autistic people in an online forum and recognised myself.
It was undeniable.
I awaited the result of my assessment with trepidation simply because I knew some people wouldn’t accept self-identification.
2/
This has turned out to be a profound discovery.
In many ways my late in life enlightenment has been life changing.
Someone I interviewed years ago said ‘once I understood I could cope’ (this has been true for me too).
An overarching theme is being able to make sense of things.

Therapist Tip: 1 in 44 children are now born with #autism A core theme in many #autistic #aspergers #adhd individuals is self hatred or self-loathing, in both the diagnosed & undiagnosed. Many are unaware they are #neurodivergent Many are misdiagnosed or have missed diagnoses
Those who were late diagnosed (after kindergarten) are included. A common theme is growing up feeling 'different', 'not fitting in', being bullied, not being accepted, 'feeling like an alien', not understanding oneself, confusion, negative self-esteem, #adhd #selfesteem
a lack of friends, family of origin issues, difficulties communicating, being misunderstood & #trauma They may have ptsd from childhood, developmental trauma, have been bullied and/or abused. They often feel as though something is inherently wrong with them (shame & guilt) #PTSD

Finished this semester’s midterm portfolio interviews! I have a skills-based #ungrading gr 11/12 Physics classroom. This means that nothing has a grade on it. Ss look at their learning from the perspective of developing skills @TG2Chat #assessment #iteachphysics
1/15
@TG2Chat When we do need a grade, like now for midterm reports, its based on these skills and in consultation with Ss. Every chapter is seen as a re-test of these skills with different content. We also do weekly “check-ins” instead of tests to assess skills
2/15
This time I added a couple of documents to help Ss. A skills tracking form for Ss to write 1 thing they were happy with on each check-in and 1 thing they want to work on for the following week. Ss keep track of completing practice problems and corrections as well.

I wasn't sure how #ungrading would go in #MCV4U, but at the halfway mark, it has been a rousing success. Here's what's working, how it happened and what's next! #thinkingclassroom #mtbos #udl #assessment #evaluation 1/13
1. It started w clear communication to families. A lot of the fear around going #markless is the fear of the unknown. Ss wonder "How will I get a mark?" & "How will I know how I'm doing?," & parents worry "Will my child get the marks they need to get into post-secondary?" 2/13
A lot of these worries are grounded in the belief that Ss are competing amongst and against each other to earn grades. The whole notion of "earning grades" speaks to a deeper problem, but our focus is on learning. When Ss learn, they will excel & they will achieve! 3/13

I am a regular listener of @Royal_College #KeyLimePodcast. I love the quick reviews of high impact, current #MedEd literature. This recent episode stirred up a lot of thoughts, enough for me to listen 3 times, and thought I would share in a thread. 1/

On this episode, @LaraVarpio @drjfrank @sherbino and @LindaSMedEd review a 2020 conceptual paper by @APSawatskyMD et al: Coaching versus competency to facilitate professional identity formation.

The authors use a case scenario to demonstrate the tension between a learner who embodies a #growthmindset by demonstrating #vulnerability, which in turn negatively influences her career development.

Today's highlight from the @acgme IM Milestones 2.0 is one of the really neat new subcompetencies PC6: Digital Health.

Much credit goes to the working group who focused on patient care. Two working groups were split to focus on three core competencies and their subcompetencies. Later meetings allowed an advisory group to review the Milestones with the entire group.

2/
When we started our work, a big question we were asked was what does the graduating resident 2025 look like? What skills, knowledge, attitudes, abilities do they need to have to prepare them for practice?

There was agreement that medicine was continuing to be digitized.

Today's highlight from the @Acgme IM Milestones 2.0 is about "PROF1 Professional Behavior" and addressing the historical context bias including racial and gender discrimination in professionalism assessment.

A 🧵

acgme.org/Portals/0/PDFs…

#IMMilestones2 #meded #Assessment

1/
I think Professionalism as a concept is useful because it describes the unique responsibilities we hold as physicians in relationship to our patients. As medical professionals we have a deep responsibility to ensure the lives and wellbeing of the patients we care for.

2/
However, at times due to power structures, systemic racism, and sexism within medicine, the concept of "professionalism" has been used for harmful effects on the careers of minoritized trainees.

The @acgme IM Milestones 2.0 were recently published and a new feature in this revision was the addition of a supplemental guide that the workgroups put together.

A 🧵

acgme.org/Portals/0/PDFs…

#IMMilestones2 #meded #assessment

1/
The Supplemental Guide provides additional details and guidance for programs and learners alike to better understand the Milestones.

An improved shared mental model will hopefully lead to more successful implementation of this new assessment system.

2/
Here is the Milestone for Medical Knowledge 3: Knowledge of Diagnostic Testing

While the revisions from Milestones 1.0 to 2.0 provided greater clarity, reduced some complexity and avoided "education speak" jargon, they are still in broad terms for summative assessment.

I have an emergency that I would like my Twitter Family's #Help with.

I am worried about my friend Jenn and her co workers that run @HarvestHillsYYC.

They have run themselves ragged and need help.

(1)
There's a reason why Jenn and the team have not posted or shared a lot lately on their social media accounts.

She is probably going to kill me for doing this (RIP @Hell_Berta)......but I need to do something for them. I can't sit back and watch them burn themselves out.
As everyone knows, Jenn was in a car accident in Dec. and she was hurt pretty bad. I am talking grade 3 concussion bad and really really bad whiplash and other injuries.

She is at home recovering and her fellow board members and dedicated volunteers have picked up and helped.

Voter fraud was used in the 2008, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018, & 2020 elections. We saw “found” ballots for one candidate in non-approved locations. We saw unexplained data anomalies. Evidence was substantial, but no investigations?! Time to end this... #MerryChristmas #Thread

When you have this many election officials crying foul, data scientists crying foul over voting system data, voter crying foul over votes cast fraudulently in their name, dead voters, senile nursing home residents targeted, & people hiding machines & evidence, it is malevolent.
