Ok, so since I started taking these ADHD meds, despite them having worn off by the time I wake up, I am waking up rested and alert and WTF IS UP WITH THAT?!
I am the one who grunts and slogs and clings to the bed, not the one who sits up and goes “eh, I’m awake, let’s get going.” This...actually, you know what? This kinda makes me angry.
I am 42 years old! I have had doctors shrug and tell me I just need a lot of sleep! I have sleep apnea and thyroid pills and still I needed naps! And now I take one goddamn pill and sleep actually WORKS and I’m alert and working in the garden instead of napping?
And I could have been living like this for years if doctors didn’t think that if you weren’t squirming and bouncing off the walls, you didn’t need to be tested?

I’m really not mad at most people, because I’m thinking back to the teachers who tried to help me and my mom crying and saying that she just didn’t know how to get me to pay attention and it was 1985, what were they gonna do? The diagnostics just weren’t there. They tried.
But if I find the people who convinced a generation that ADHD was just a bullshit diagnosis and we needed to let kids run around more, I will fight them.
Also, fuck that person in particular, whoever you are, who did the comic of Calvin & Hobbes with Calvin going on Ritalin and Hobbes turning into a stuffed tiger forever. I hope you live to a ripe old age and step on a Lego every day of it.
