Atherosclerosis in the simplest form is fat in your blood vessels.
Overtime, it can block blood flow or worse, they can break off and clog a small vessel usually in the heart
Let me explain
When you smoke, have high blood pressure, don't exercise, have diabetes, etc. It can cause the lining of the artery wall to become damaged.
This makes it very easy for cholesterol to deposit in those blood vessels
Those fats cause the liver to produce LDL.
They are little packages of cholesterol that travel around the body in the blood. Excess LDL lodges in the artery walls, causes more deposits
Then the muscle cells in the artery try to contain this deposit by forming a rough sheet over it.
If it is in one of arteries in the heart, it can block flow.
If it's in your brain, it may lead to a drop in the person's thinking skills. (Your brain cells need the oxygen that the blood provides)
Control your weight, blood sugar, blood pressure etc
Exercise: least 40 minutes of aerobic activity (the kind that gets your heart and lungs pumping) three or four days per week.
Eat a healthy diet.
Don't smoke: Don't ask me smoke what please.
You might help someone stop a bad habit that in turn helps them live a healthier life.
