#ShareGardeningKnowledge #1 In 2011 my husband and I put up a 12 x 40 foot hoop house. Before it was installed we tilled this area of lawn, compost was later mixed in by hand.
#ShareGardeningKnowledge The main reason why we built the hoop house was to extend our growing season. This is a clay based soil with all the sod tilled in, not removed. I have no idea what I'm doing in this picture, but I do love the smell of soil.
#ShareGardeningKnowledge 18 days later this is what things looked like inside. Compost had been added and tomato, pepper, eggplant and leek transplants planted. I walk on boards or reach in from the sides so as not to compact soil.
#ShareGardeningKnowledge Here it is a month later, middle of June, and I continue to plant as densely as I can.
#ShareGardeningKnowledge 10 days later. Remember, this was a lawn less than two months ago!
#ShareGardeningKnowledge It is now July 7th.
#ShareGardeningKnowledge Early August. I do not like seeing bare soil in gardens, it freaks me out. I plant as densely as I can.
#ShareGardeningKnowledge #2 To finish up what I have to offer about growing in a hoop house I would recommend making a tunnel house like you can see in posts made by @PermaGoddess The folds in the plastic of ours traps insects and with Colettes design insects are far safer.
