[Thread of New York]: I've been a journalist for 30 years and I have never seen the level of malpractice by elected officials, as we've been witnessing from this administration on #CoronaVirus. The crisis is getting worse, much worse.
2. New York City is on track to become the global epicenter of #coronavirus, and the key driver of contagion in the United States. Look at how #NewYorkCity's death toll is tracking compared to other metro areas. Within days, the death rate will double daily.

4. The concentration of cases in New York means hospitals will be overwhelmed within days driving up the mortality rates. See the pink line below? The U.S. will soon have more deaths attributed to #Coronavirus than China did at this stage and doubling every 3-5 days.
5. Trump is trying to talk up a pivot point, but this is not the real estate or the stock market. Every graph is on a growth trajectory. We need you to be clear about the risks and challenges ahead. Things will likely be worse by Easter, not better.
6. Trump wants churches packed by Easter. This is impossible but also vastly irresponsible. Churches have been identified as the key super cluster for #CoronaVirus infection. In one case, a South Korean patient who attended two church services may have infected 2,481 people.
7. It takes 2 weeks for a carrier to to clear the virus. Even under a strict lockdown with extensive testing, it would take at least 28 days to identify the first round of infected and the people they may have infected. My interview with @yaneerbaryam.
8. To stop the virus in its tracks, we need an immediate national enforced lockdown. The experience in Italy and elsewhere has shown a partial lockdown does not do enough to reduce the spread of the virus quickly enough.
