So, Jared Kushner had quite a week...

In case you had trouble keeping up with all of Jared’s problematic behavior, we made a list. It’s long. Some of the things he did are apparently illegal, some just look really bad:
We’ll start with the fact that his “shadow” task force uses private email accounts, apparently violating both the Presidential Records Act and FACA.

We filed a complaint:

But apparently running the shadow task force has not kept him fully informed. Last night he told Americans that the national stockpile of emergency supplies is “our” stockpile and not for states.

Kushner has also managed to acquire a major conflict of interest: his brother co-founded a company that developed a government website to locate coronavirus tests (the one Trump promised that Google would build).

Plus, in the stimulus package, there just so happens to be a major tax break for real estate investors.

Jared’s family company could save a lot of money (and so could the Trumps).

Finally, unrelated to coronavirus, Jared Kushner has been running the Trump 2020 reelection campaign out of the West Wing. Not only does that feel wrong, but it’s apparently illegal.

So we filed our second complaint in a week against Jared:

In 2019, taxpayers paid $7.6 million per day for immigrant detention. Congress appropriates these funds, and could require private prison contracts to include transparency measures.

Deaths in detention centers even before this pandemic show that Congress needs to step up.
Private prisons account for 70% of immigration detainees, and poor conditions like overcrowding and inadequate medical treatment increase health risks.

Yet private prisons can hide conditions and outcomes because they aren't subject to transparency laws. washingtonpost.com/immigration/co…
Detainees in crowded immigration jails are particularly vulnerable to communicable diseases, even in the absence of a pandemic.

The coronavirus spread shows the urgent need for transparency measures in private prisons that contract with DHS.

Congress must act.

Yet again, President Trump turns disaster response into a campaign event, wearing a hat his campaign's website is currently featuring for $29. As we've seen, this kind of cross promotion is the default for Trump.
There's no question that it's a campaign hat. It even says TRUMP 2020 on it. Believe it or not, he does this a lot. In fact, turning disaster response into campaign gear promotion is part of his playbook.
We first saw it with Hurricane Harvey, in the early days of the Trump presidency. We couldn't have known back then just how often we'd see him do it. washingtonpost.com/news/postevery…

AU idea I've been toying with writing, kinda blurry on the details. Might take me a while to type it all out since I'm kind of preoccupied atm

NurseConnor gets hired by Hank because he needs extra help taking care of Cole.
Being Lieutenant and on the homicide division leaves him with unpredictable hours, and he feels bad having to call his neighbors at 2 or 4 in the morning if he gets called in, especially with Coles unpredictable condition and with the type of care he requires.
Cole is epileptic, has been since he was a baby, and Hank's ex-wife is less than helpful when it comes to helping her husband and caring for her son. Hank just wants someone to be with Cole when he can't, in case there's an emergency.

You’ve probably read this week’s stories about threats to insect populations and why they’re alarming (scroll down for spoilers*). Here are some things you can do to help.

*We could all die.
The bad news, to be clear, is almost unfathomably bad. The large scale causes (like habitat loss due to climate change) are extremely difficult to counteract. Also, certain losses (like extinctions) are obviously irreversible.
The good news is that the small scale matters too, and that the effects of small scale changes can be immediate and important. You could, with relatively little effort, save thousands of individual insects and millions of other vital invertebrates over the course of a year.
