You Can't Create Desire In Your Target Customer.

I saw an ad for skill acquisition last week, and it read, "Why not use the money you spend on clubbing and eating to get a skill that will help you."

Not quoting, but very similar.
👇🏾
This is a wrong move because it doesn't understand marketing. See this:

Your target customer may ordinarily like clubbing and eating.

You can't create a new desire for skills but you can stir up a desire already resident in them.

"The Desire To Have Fun"
If they make money..
from their skills, they will be able to have fun.

Another desire may be "The Desire To Feel Among"

If they imbibe skills, people will respect them and seek their approval.

So..

You can't create desire in people; you can only channel already existing desires to your product.

"Madam, I no get that 12k!"

When a prospective customer tells you this, it's one thing.

She doesn't think your stuff worths that amount.

It's not about your price.

It is about how she perceives what you offer.

If she just didn't have the money, that won't be the tone.
So what can you do here?

The easiest is to compare.
1. Compare your price to your competitors, show why yours is your price. E.g. X charges #15k but I charge #12k coz I want to help.

2. Compare your price to her goal. E.g. #12k to look more classy than everyone at the dinner?
3. Compare your price to the price of stuff she gets regularly. E.g. #12k will buy you a meal at Dominos and Coldstone not more than thrice.

4. Compare your price to what people like her spend. E.g. This other chic bought sth that wasn't even up to this for #15k and she's glad.

Mummy's Final Warning In Your Selling

So you just finished having a conversation with mum..

And it looked like it was a mere conversation...

I mean, she quietly let you air your opinion and defend yourself..

And she calmly explained why Chika is the right man for you.

You...
...don't have a man anyway but you want to go and think about it.

Then you hear, "If you don't consider Chika, shey you know Mrs. Obiagu's daughter, the girl that just came back from U.K... Eh, I saw her with Mama Chika.

I'm telling you because there are like three good men..
..left on earth. If you don't decide fast, we'll stay in this house together. I'm in my husband's house though."

You see that last emotional close?

E. Dey. Work.

Give your reader something to think about.

Something like...

"This could be the last Thursday you ever...

Here's A Secret Hack That Many Traders Use On You

This hack was used by the Father of advertising EVERYTIME...

Also used by a legendary copywriter who sold over 20 million pairs of glasses.

And many traders are using it, because IT WORKS LIKE JUJU!

Let me tell you about it.
It's that thing they do when they tell you to "touch this part of the machine na..."

Or

"Imagine that you position this thing near your bed now, and you just wake up in the morning and see it..."

David Ogilvy used this hack so much, you can't drop his copy without wishing...
..that you could afford whatever he was selling.

The hack is to get your reader involved with your product..

Making him feel like he can see and touch it already (if you're writing to him).

And giving him a feeling of ownership.
'What would it feel like if I had this now?'

How Can You Get Better At Copywriting?

You have heard that one of the key ways to learn to write better copy is to read copy.

But.

It's not just reading copy though.

That's just your starting point.

{{Thread}} Retweet.
To become the best at writing copy, while you must read copy...

You must read everything you can get your hands on - good or bad.

You'll soon be able to judge. But it will only happen when you make it a habit.

How do you know good stuff? I'll tell you!
Notice whether you get drawn into a story or stay as an observer...

The longer you manage to stay as an observer, the worse the copy (as a general rule).

This is why a copy critique should end as soon as something jars when you're reading. You see...

In case you missed @ronaldnzimora 's live session hosted by @thejosephdon ...

I am going to let you in on some deep points you should munch on...

But first, why did you miss it? It was near 2 hours! So, I'm sure you can't expect me to say all. Let's go!

Point 1: Start with...
...what you have. Use what you have. Do what you have to do, until you can do what is possible.

Point 2: The entrepreneurial journey is a marathon, not a sprint. Look at the long term.

Point 3: With sales, you can't lack. Learn Copywriting. Learn how to sell.

Point 4: If...
...you must succeed in life, especially in this country, know that it takes grit.

Point 5: You may have to do the gruesome work, but if it will pay off, do it.

Point 6: Along the journey, you will meet a lot of failures, a little bit of success here and there, but don't stop...

You have probably heard so many "You can do it"

@lasisielenu said that one 'motivashona' speaker told him...

"The you that is in you is bigger than the you that you see"

Something of that sort. . .

While all this may be extreme, you need this inspiration.

Why?

Thread
You see...

Life is hard.

It is hard.

Especially if you are from a third world country as Nigeria...

There are many factors that can discourage you...

And even prevent you from seeing a big picture...

From seeing possibilities...

So dear, we need inspiration.

All of us...
Beside the external motivation , we also need internal motivation...

Because really, it starts from within.

All motivation will be futile if you don't feel it at all...

But many great stories we hear...
Are of people who pushed on against all odds.

Another battle is...
