De onde vem o tal de “hashtag”?

Quem usa as redes sociais sabe do que se trata. É aquele símbolo que chamamos de jogo-da-velha, ou chiqueirinho (#). Mas e a palavra hashtag? Nos anos 20 nos EUA, esse símbolo servia como abreviatura para peso em libras.
Foi massificado quando o telefone se popularizou como símbolo de função genérica do novo e revolucionário telefone com teclas, produzido pela Bell Labs nos anos 60. Um nome alternativo e mais pomposo para o hashtag seria “octothorpe”, criado pelos próprios engenheiros da empresa.
E hoje é usado para servir a função de código para interação nas mídias sociais.
