Josh Frydenburg was given the power to save jobs, save livelihoods and even to save lives as he could alter #Jobkeeper to include more people and workplaces
Instead he’s been doing the opposite and now millions are missing out
#Thread #auspol 1/10
His first changes were to improve the access for charities, change some definitions around entity rules to capture people in that sector but he also stripped people under 17 of JobKeeper (they all lost their jobs) and made it harder for universities to get #Jobkeeper 2/10
The weird thing about this announcement was that charities got to exclude government funding revenue but universities specifically did not. A clear and deliberate decision to punish universities 3/10
There was the decision that if you registered one eligible employee you had to register them all. Which sounds great but....4/10
the thing started with no access for casuals with less than 12 months continuous service and totally excluding anyone on a visa (other than some Kiwis).
That STILL hasn’t changed leaving 2 million+ people locked out of #Jobkeeper 5/10
Then there was the decision to just straight up cut universities out. No more hurdles to get over university, you just straight up can’t get #Jobkeeper. Our third largest export industry, being pummeled by shut downs and Frydenburg is shutting them out. Cold. 6/10
The “sovereign entity” change saw 5,500 airport workers KICKED OFF #Jobkeeper because another government, given permission to buy Dnata by the Australian government, owns 100% of the company
Other companies, 95% owned by other countries get it but not 100% foreign owned ones 7/10
And of course there is the “you pay in advance for at least a month before Josh pays you the subsidy” rule which is fine for large businesses but all the cafes, bars, boutiques that run on $1.50 in cash have basically been opted out
They should be in but they ain’t
8/10
There’s local & state entity employees. Not public servants but serving the public in libraries, pools, galleries, museums & more are excluded from #Jobkeeper with Frydenburg telling the states to deal with it
Most states are doing good
Vic makes Josh like even more grinchy 9/10
So there you go
Given the limitless power to help people Josh Frydenburg, after an early foray to include charities, has spent 6 weeks cutting more and more and more people out of a program that’s supposed to keep people in a job and paid during #COVID19
#JobKeeper #Auspol 10/10
