Cases of #pillage by corporate actors investigated and brought to justice are rare.

Very rare.

Still, TRIAL International in recent years has submitted no less than 4 such criminal cases to the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) of #Switzerland.

The first complaint concerned the role played by #Argor-Heraeus in refining several tonnes of gold illegally extracted from the #DRC.
The OAG decided in 2015 to close it down.
Not being a civil party, TRIAL was unable to appeal the decision.

The second case, filed in 2016, concerns a Swiss businessman, Christoph Huber, currently under (very slow) investigation by the OAG for his role in the #looting of raw materials in the #DRC.

The third case was filed in 2019, and concerns a Swiss businessman suspected of looting #rosewood in Casamance.
The OAG has not yet decided what it will do with it.

The last case relates to the looting of gasoil in #Libya.
TRIAL just asked the OAG to promptly investigate the possible role played by a Zug-based corporation and determine whether or not it was complicit in the #warcrime of #pillage.

TRIAL will continue to investigate corporate actors suspected of violating international and Swiss law and demands in such instances that criminal proceedings be opened.
It is imperative, especially for a country like #Switzerland that shelters so many multinationals...

... that the justice system determine when economic entities active in conflict zones violate the #GenevaConventions as well as the Swiss criminal code, and set clear precedents.

It is indeed vital that corporations stop fuelling conflicts.
